Job Description

Job Overview Our family is looking for a male Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy (PT), Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), or related healthcare student to assist with evening therapy sessions for our 19-year-old son who is recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI). This is an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while making a meaningful difference in a young adult's recovery. Our son is currently using a wheelchair as part of his recovery. He has a wonderful sense of humor, loves to laugh, enjoys spending time with people, and works incredibly hard during his therapy sessions. Responsibilities Assisting with prescribed stretching and range-of-motion exercises Helping with physical therapy exercises directed by the family and therapy team Safely transferring him to and from his wheelchair and therapy table Assisting with mobility, balance, strengthening, and endurance activities Encouraging and motivating him throughout his rehabilitation sessions Helping create a safe, positive, and engaging therapy environment Therapy Space Our home has a dedicated rehabilitation area equipped with: Professional therapy table Stationary exercise bike Stability and agility balls Weight room and strength-training equipment Various physical therapy and rehabilitation tools We're Looking For Someone Who Is Currently studying Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, PTA, Athletic Training, or another related healthcare field (or has equivalent experience) Dependable, patient, and encouraging Physically able to safely assist with transfers and therapeutic exercises Interested in neurological rehabilitation and gaining practical experience Comfortable working closely with the family as part of a rehabilitation team Committed to maintaining a clean, organized therapy environment Understands the importance of proper hand hygiene and infection prevention to help protect our son during his recovery Able to successfully complete a background check prior to employment Because this position involves frequent physical assistance and transfers for our 6'2" son , we are seeking a male candidate who is comfortable performing these duties safely. One or both parents will always be home and available to assist as needed. This position is intended to provide additional support during evening therapy sessions while giving Dad some relief from the physical demands of daily stretching, exercises, and transfers. Schedule Flexible evening hours (schedule can be discussed) Ideal for a college or graduate student Compensation Competitive hourly pay based on experience Paid training provided CPR certification preferred but not required (we're happy to help the right candidate obtain certification if needed) If you're interested in gaining valuable real-world rehabilitation experience while helping a motivated young man continue his recovery, we'd love to hear from you!
