JOB SUMMARY
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse with specific education and training in the care of hospitalized patients. He/she is employed by St. Tammany Health System (STHS) for the purpose of coordinating care of hospitalized patients. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Lead Hospital Medicine physician and in association with members of the Hospitalist team in the evaluation, treatment, and care coordination of patients.
A formal collaborative agreement is a requirement. The major area of responsibility for this role is supporting physicians with the admission of patients to the hospital from emergency room or direct admissions. The primary duties of the Nurse Practitioner under the supervision of the Lead Hospital Medicine physician and in association with members of the Hospitalist team include: Examine patients and review medical history prior to admission Perform and document a H&P that is co-signed by the attending physician within 24 hours Placing orders for appropriate diagnostic and treatment modalities as part of the care plan Seeking appropriate specialty and sub-specialty consultations Formalizing the patient handoff process as part of continuity of care Effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues that are part of the care team (Physician Assistant) The Physician Assistant has specific education and training in the care of hospitalized patients. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Nurse Practitioner
  • Minimum Masters Prepared:
    Curriculum must include didactic in clinical experience in Acute Care Current Louisiana Registered Nurse License (RN) Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licensure in Louisiana (APRN) Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St. Tammany Health System Physician Assistant
Minimum Masters Prepared:
Curriculum must include didactic in clinical experience in Acute Care Current Physician Assistant Licensure in Louisiana (PA) Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St. Tammany Health System
