Administrative Assistant functions under direction of Nurse Manager or designee and assists in maintaining a smooth functioning unit. Administrative Assistant transcribes physician orders, answers telephone, greets and assists people who arrive on unit, assists with admissions and discharges and maintains desk area as an efficient work area. Qualifications for the job... High school education or equivalent required. Must be able to read, write and perform simple arithmetic calculations at a level acquired through a high school education. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must type 20 w.p.m. Two to three years of experience in a clerical position with similar requirements preferred. Experience and knowledge of computer operations to include order entry as well as basic operational experience preferred. Work requires four to six weeks on-the-job training to acquire necessary familiarity with department policies, procedures and forms. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively and cordially interact with patients, families, physicians, and other health team members. Must be able to accurately and effectively use current EMR. Position requires the ability to work in a stressful environment.
