This position will report to the supervising physician(s) and will play an integral role in supporting RCMG's clinical team across photobiomodulation (Valeda) therapy, fluorescein angiography, clinical trials, and general patient care. Our Company Retinal Consultants Medical Group is one of the premier retinal subspecialty groups in the country, providing outstanding retinal care for the Northern Central Valley since 1977. From the time of our founding as the first retina-only practice in Sacramento, we have grown to serve much of Northern California, with thirteen offices and more locations planned. All Retinal Consultants physicians are board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specialize exclusively in diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula. We also have an ocular oncology division that focuses on the treatment of cancers inside the eye. Our eighteen physicians have studied and trained at some of the most renowned institutions in the world and all have graduated with top honors. Position Overview The Physician Assistant will work under the direction of a supervising physician to provide high-quality, patient-centered care within RCMG's retinal practice. This role supports patients undergoing photobiomodulation (Valeda) therapy and fluorescein angiography, assists with clinical trial-related patient care, and contributes to general patient evaluation and follow-up. A successful candidate will be detail-oriented, an effective communicator, and comfortable working collaboratively within a physician-led clinical team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Photobiomodulation (Valeda) Therapy Conduct patient intake and eligibility screening for Valeda treatment per protocol Administer and oversee Valeda photobiomodulation treatment sessions Monitor patient response and document treatment outcomes in the EMR Educate patients on treatment course, expectations, and follow-up schedule Fluorescein Angiography (FA) Prepare and screen patients for FA, including allergy and contraindication review Perform or assist with FA imaging per departmental protocol Escalate abnormal findings or adverse reactions to the supervising physician Clinical Trials Support enrolled patients through trial-specific visit schedules and protocol-required assessments Assist with documentation and data collection required for trial compliance Coordinate with research coordinators and CRAs on visit logistics and protocol adherence General Patient Care Conduct patient histories and routine follow-up evaluations under physician direction Review diagnostic imaging and test results, flagging deviations for physician review Document all patient encounters accurately in the electronic medical record Communicate with patients regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and next steps as directed by the supervising physician Maintain compliance with federal and state medical regulations and ethical standards Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Strong clinical assessment and patient communication skills Ability to work collaboratively within a physician-directed care team Comfort with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and procedures (training provided) Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced clinical environment Ability to accurately document clinical encounters in an EMR Flexibility to travel to other nearby RCMG locations as needed Education and Experience Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program Current PA-C certification and California PA license required at hire National Provider Identifier (NPI) required at hire Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Ophthalmology and/or retina experience preferred Bilingual in Spanish a plus
