Advanced Practice Provider (APRN/PA) - Trauma and Acute Care Surgery - ( 260003KI ) Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide specialty care to patients on both the Trauma and Emergency General Surgery services at the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the area. The APP will work closely with residents, fellows and attendings to provide the safest, most innovative and high-quality care. They will have the opportunity to work autonomously as part of an attending-led team. All TGH team members are responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values in accordance with Tampa General Hospital.RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides 24/7, primary coverage to patients admitted to the medical-surgical and stepdown units in collaboration with in-house attending. Provides consulting services to patients with traumatic or emergent surgical conditions while admitted to the STICU (surgical and trauma ICU) and other critical care units throughout the hospital. Requests, interprets and evaluates diagnostic and laboratory tests and takes appropriate actions as medically or surgically indicated in accordance with departmental protocols. Performs basic wound care and procedures including laceration repair, incision and drainage, wet-to-dry dressings and wound vacuum application. Provides rotating coverage of clinic to provide continuity of post-operative and post-trauma care as patients transition to an outpatient setting. Guides safe discharge planning in conjunction with case managers and social workers including daily attendance of multi-disciplinary rounds. Works autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' surgical conditions and traumatic injuries. Provides first assist coverage in Operating Room during residents' education day or when there are inadequate number of surgical residents to assist in cases. Assist in trauma resuscitation during times where the resident team is incumbered (must hold active ATLS certification). Participates in performance improvement projects to improve patient outcomes, reduce length of stay and reduce readmissionsTECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise utilizing evidence and theory-based practice, infection control standards and clinical evaluations in providing care to clients in clinic or hospital-based settings, as evidenced by following established protocols. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical records (EMR) systems, preferably Epic Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment. Flexibility to adapt to new roles as the Acute Care Surgery team expands. Strong written and oral communication skills. Should demonstrate the ability to work within a team of >15 APPs, 14 attending physicians and numerous residents as they rotate through the Acute Care Surgery service. Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution abilities. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
Current licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of Florida. Acute Care or Adult Gerontology Acute Care board certification AND registered nurse first assist (RNFA) certification required for APRNs to first assist in the Operating Room. National certification is required for PAs. Advanced Trauma Life Support is preferred. If this certification is not obtained prior to employment, it is required by 6 months of employment. Experience in trauma, emergency medicine or surgical field preferred. Extremely motivated new graduates may be considered for a position in our APP fellowship program to support their transition to practice.Primary Location :
