Job Description

Neuroscience / Neurointerventional Advanced Practice Provider-Day Position Join a multifaceted team that covers neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neurointerventional radiology, and elective neurosurgery cases.o The Advanced Practice Practitioner's (APP) primary role will cover the neurosurgery / neurointerventional radiology day shifts,o The APP will be trained to cover all aspects of the neuroscience team.o Help ensure full coverage of the neuroscience clinical schedule.o The APP will have the opportunity to train and may provide cross coverage to other APP service lines within the same specialty separate from your Required Shifts, as defined in Schedule 2 ("Cross-Coverage Shifts").
  • Performs routine and expanded s as listed in the provider's collaboration agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing.
  • In collaboration with the physician care team, the APP will:o Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients.
o Obtain medical histories, examine patients, daily rounds, orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments.o Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.o Administer therapeutic procedures such as placement of intracranial monitoring systems, extra ventricular drains, VP shunt taps, suturing, and wound care.o Instructs and counsels patients and families.o May first assist in the operating room when necessary.
  • Essential Skills include:o Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matterso Ability to handle and triage multiple priorities, work independently, take initiative in achieving expected results, and handle confidential information.
o Demonstrate competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.o Demonstrate skills in making effective decisions, quality improvement activities, problem solving, crisis management, organizing work and meeting deadlines, attention to detail and follow through, resource management, ability to work successfully with diverse types of individuals including management, clinical staff, and the public.
  • Meets all team and organizational deadlines for task requests, project/ initiative submissions, evaluations, and compliance items.
  • Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Maryland Board of Nursing standards and expanded procedural protocols.
  • Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.
o Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines,o Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.o Demonstrates commitment to professional department and organizational core valueso Follows Capital Region Health's High Reliability Organization principles of patient safety, zero harm, professionalism, and mutual respect for patients, families, and coworkers.o Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.o Demonstrate effective verbal and written interpersonal skills.o Implements policies, procedure, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.o Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members.
  • Participates in APP Council meetings, Neuroscience team meetings, APP and Neuroscience team educational opportunities, and other learning opportunities as they arise.
  • Engages in leadership activities including but not limited to APP representation on committees, training, education, and mentorship of other APPs, and specific service line and APP events and meetings.
  • Participates in APP educational and other learning opportunities as they arise.
  • Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.
o Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty.o Completes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years. Complete 32 hours of trauma related CME and 16 hours of stroke related CME.o Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded procedural protocols.o Maintains a procedure complication rate less than the national average.
  • Engages in leadership activities including but not limited to APP representation on committees, training and education of other APPs, specific team events, etc.
Work Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
    PAs:
    Bachelor's degree, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program, and certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician's Assistants are required. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.
      NPs:
      Bachelor's degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
      • One year of neurosurgery or neurocritical care experience is preferred.
      • Credentialing must be obtained from UM Capital Region Health's Medical Staff Office and maintenance of
      BLS /ACLS
      certification is required. ATLS certification preferred.
