A Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Works in all areas and specialties of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine but has less formal certification than a physician. Performs duties delegated by a physician such as recording patient medical histories, ordering diagnostic tests, or giving immunizations. May serve as the primary healthcare provider, in consultation with a part-time physician, in communities with limited health care resources.

Experience Preferred:

Job Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive inpatient neurosurgical care, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with acute and chronic neurosurgical conditions Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, radiologic, and diagnostic test results to guide clinical decision making Manage neurosurgical drains, including external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, subdural evacuating port system (SEPS) Subgaleal/subdural drains, and other cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion systems in accordance with institutional protocols and provider privileges Perform bedside procedures within the scope of practice and credentialing, including lumbar punctures, drain removal, suture and staple removal, wound care, and placement of sutures when clinically indicated Prepare patients for surgical intervention by coordinating preoperative evaluations, reviewing required imaging and diagnostic studies, obtaining medical clearances and completing preoperative orders Assist in the operating room as delegated and within the APP s scope of practice Provide comprehensive postoperative management, including pain control, wound assessment, drain management, neurological monitoring, and coordination of discharge planning and follow-up care Evaluate new inpatient, emergency department, and transfer consultations; perform comprehensive history and physical examinations; develop differential diagnoses; and initiate appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans Attend daily multidisciplinary rounds, document comprehensive progress notes, monitor patient status, and adjust treatment plans as clinically indicated Complete discharge planning, medication reconciliation, discharge summaries, prescriptions, patient education, and coordination of post-discharge services to ensure safe transition of care Collaborates with Stroke, Epilepsy, Neurosurgery, Neurocritical Care, Rehabilitation, Hospital Medicine, Nursing, and other multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes, care transitions, and discharge planning Participates in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice, development of clinical workflows, and neuroscience service line initiatorganizational needs evolve May perform other duties as assigned or directed by management
