A Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Works in all areas and specialties of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine but has less formal certification than a physician. Performs duties delegated by a physician such as recording patient medical histories, ordering diagnostic tests, or giving immunizations. May serve as the primary healthcare provider, in consultation with a part-time physician, in communities with limited health care resources.

Job Description
Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant- Trauma
- Full Time
- Trauma
- Rotating schedule/alternating weekends 12.5 h. In this role, the successful candidate The Physician Assistant Service is dedicated to providing quality, professional, cost-effective health care to all patients at NYULH
- Suffolk.
- and outpatients primarily in-house including, the Emergency Department, Pre-Admission Testing, the operating room, Employee Health, Psych Care, including pediatrics.
Job Responsibilities:
Introduces/identifies self as a physician assistant Performs initial assessment/history and physical examination Orders and interprets tests/results(lab, radiol., ekg, etc.)based on patient need Documents care in the chart in accordance with Hospital policy & procedure Formulates diagnoses Formulates and implements treatment plan Consults with physician when required based on patient's condition Reassesses patients Orders, applies, removes, reapplies restraints Provides emergency medical care including Code 64 management Triages patients- ED only Performs Trauma assessment/reassessment (Trauma Team only) Legibly documents in patient chart, departmental forms, and any other Hospital forms all pertinent patient information following departmental and Hospital policies.
- house only Discharge instructions written and given-ED only Explains procedure to patient/family Uses sterile technique Performs procedures following accepted standards of care
- IVs, foley cath, NGT, CVL removal, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Graduate of a PA program accredited by The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, or its predecessor. Current NCCPA certification Current New York State license as Registered Physician Assistant Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association..Required Licenses:
Physician Assistant Lic-NYS, Ntl Com Cert Physician Asst, Basic Life Support Cert Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics may be required based on your selected privileges.
