Full-Time Position Summary:
The Radiation Oncology Physician Assistant (PA) functions as a vital member of the multidisciplinary care team, working collaboratively attending physicians, nurses, and technologists. The PA provides independent and team-based care for patients receiving radiation therapy. Responsibilities include comprehensive clinical assessment, management of treatment-related side effects, coordination of care, and contribution to patient education and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct and document comprehensive history and physical examinations of radiation oncology patients. Formulate and adjust treatment regimens under established standardized procedures and supervising physician oversight. Evaluate and manage patients experiencing acute and chronic side effects of radiation treatment. Order and interpret laboratory and imaging studies; initiate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Monitor patients response to treatment and provide follow-up care and surveillance. Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, symptom management, and follow-up care. Participate in tumor boards, interdisciplinary rounds, and case reviews. Document all services in the electronic medical record (EMR) accurately and in a timely manner. Collaborate with internal and external healthcare providers and support services for care coordination. Maintain high standards of confidentiality, communication, and professionalism.
Required Qualifications:
Master s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Valid
BLS/ACLS
certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Eligible for DEA license with prescriptive authority in Oregon.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Oncology, Radiation Oncology Knowledge of oncologic emergencies and radiation-related toxicities. Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity outpatient setting. Experience participating in multidisciplinary tumor boards and quality improvement initiatives.
Skills and Abilities:
Competence in triage, physical assessment, and development of evidence-based treatment plans. Ability to respond to patient care needs when physicians are not immediately available. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain complex clinical information to patients and families. Proficient in computer-based applications, including EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks and work under fluctuating workload and frequent interruptions. Commitment to patient-centered care and team collaboration.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in outpatient clinical settings and occasionally in hospital-based environments. May require standing, walking, and lifting or assisting patients. Work with patients undergoing cancer treatments and radiation-related procedures.
