JOB SUMMARY
The Orthopedic Cast Technician will primarily be responsible for applying and removing orthopedic casts, maintaining cast room equipment, and assisting physicians during orthopedic procedures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist orthopedic physicians in non-operative bone fracture reduction. Apply, adjust and remove orthopedic casts, splints, and braces. Provide patient education on cast care and mobility aids. Perform basic wound care and apply dressings as needed. Inspect casts regularly for proper fit and function, making adjustments as necessary. Use specialized tools and equipment to cut off or remove casts. Document patient care activities in medical records. Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment and work area. Order and maintain inventory of casting materials and supplies. Ensure patient comfort during procedures and address any concerns or questions.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Proven work experience as an Orthopedic Cast Technician or similar role Experience with cast application and removal techniques Knowledge of orthopedic terminology and procedures Excellent patient care skills Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment Strong communication and interpersonal skills Certification as an Orthopedic Technologist (OTC) preferred High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a cast technician program is a plus.
