Psychiatrist I (On-Call) Announcement Number 26-15 Job Code Z6300 Employment Type Full-Time Job Location Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility Tuscaloosa, Alabama Salary/Pay Rate Range ($226,096.80-$344,033.52 Annually). Additional Salary Information Salary will be commensurate with experience. Limitations apply to current State employees. Open Date 4/24/2026 Close Date Until filled Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and successful completion of a residency program in psychiatry as approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and recognized by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association. Must be board-eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Key Responsibilities
  • Obtains psychiatric assessment upon admission, including traumatic events, childhood info., alcohol & drug issues and other assessments.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans with clear goals and objectives and incorporation of evidence‑based practices.
  • Selects appropriate medication based on diagnosis, monitors for side effects and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Documents completely with clarity and accurate recording of patient presentations, diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Monitors lab information, including therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), metabolic side effects, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS).
  • Obtains consent from all patients for medications, procedures, and assessment of their capacity to manage daily activities, including financial responsibilities.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provides timely and accurate information to support safe, coordinated care. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of mental conditions such as psychoses and behavioral disorders.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology and psychopharmacology, including the use and effects of antipsychotics and other psychotropic medications.
  • Knowledge of treatment strategies.
  • Knowledge of psychological principles and their application in developing and implementing effective treatment plans.
  • Ability to make clinical assessments, interpret responses both verbal and non‑verbal, gather clinical data, and diagnose illnesses.
