Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as an expert in patient assessment, clinical exam, and appropriate interventions. The APP will have extensive contact with patients, requiring collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The APP is dedicated to the provision of competent, compassionate, and ethical care of patients in all settings (inpatient or outpatient). Job Duties /

Responsibilities:

Provide quality and comprehensive care to patients in all settings.

Assess the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of the patient.

Provide prompt management of acute symptoms related to the disease and/or treatment and communicate changes in the patient's condition as needed with appropriate staff.

Appropriately order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic procedures.

Provide goals of care discussions and instruct patients and family on treatment course(s).Comply with all company policies and procedures, and HIPAA regulations.

Act within the lawful limits of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing APRN Collaborative Practice Agreement, or the Arkansas State Medical Board PA Protocol.

Prescribes medication as per state licensing guidelines (but does not prescribe initial chemotherapy or biotherapy).Work independently, while collaborating with physicians/referring providers/medical oncologists/hospital staff, respectively.

Demonstrate knowledge of disease-specific and clinic and/or hospital protocols.

Billing and documentation are consistently comprehensive, accurate and timely.

Consult Social Worker, Chaplain, or other healthcare staff as needed.

Assist in the smooth functioning of the respective department/clinic/hospital in a cost-effective manner.

Attend required meetings and participate in a constructive manner.

Maintain a high standard of professional performance, behavior, and appearance.

Effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, caregivers, physicians, and staff.

Solve problems and clarify necessary steps of logic and reasoning in a professional manager.

Duties and responsibilities will continue to evolve and may change as deemed necessary, and as the role of the APRN and PA are further developed.(For Medical Oncology, Research, and Hospitalist) Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsies after appropriate training.(For Medical Oncology, Palliative Care, and Research) Utilize resources such as NCCN, CAPC, and UpToDate.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

(Medical Oncology, Palliative Care, Hospitalist): Will be required to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis.

HOSPITALIST SPECIFIC DUTIES

Coordinates discharge planning needs with providers involved in the patient's care, hospital staff, the patient and the patient's family or caregiver. Coordinates transfers to other facilities or hospitals when required and medically appropriate. Serves as a contact and resource for hospital staff and providers.
