Job Description

Cardiologist Dilkon Medical Center | Winslow Indian Health Care 500 Indiana Ave, Winslow, AZ 86047 Full-time Full-time Under general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, provides comprehensive cardiology care to patients of the Winslow Indian Health Care Center Inc. (WIHCC), including at Dilkon Medical Center (DMC). Upholds the principles of WIHCC's Vision, Mission, and Value Statements. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information at all times. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality. Full-time outpatient cardiology clinic. Monday through Friday 0800 hours to 1630 hours. Provides care in general cardiology clinic/new patient consults/continuity of care patients, pacemaker clinic. Serves as consultant to WIHCC, DMC, Leupp satellite clinic patients and providers from urgent care, emergency department, walk-in clinic, dental/general clinics on intermediate and daily bass requiring complex cardiac diagnostic or management services.
Hospital call:
None. However may occasionally be contacted by urgent care, emergency department with after-hours telephone call to discuss complex patients and make recommendations (1-2 times per month).
Clinical responsibilities:
Interviews and examines patients with complex cardiac conditions, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs diagnostic test and examinations necessary to obtain all possible information for each case. Diagnoses and treats adult patients with a wide range of cardiovascular problems, including ischemic heart disease, congestive heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, diabetes and hypertension with cardiovascular effects, and other complex and critical conditions. Care involves chronic disease management as well as acute emergency care in various settings, including WIHCC Urgent Care and DMC Emergency Department. Provides advanced specialty diagnostic procedures to WIHCC and DMC patients including supervising and interpreting treadmill stress testing, echocardiography, dobutamine stress testing, arrhythmia monitoring and testing, and pacemaker interrogations. Act as supervisor physician for PET stress test offered through outside vendor. Collaborates with invasive cardiologists, electrophysiologists, surgeons and other sub-specialists in cardiovascular medicine when need for additional diagnostic therapeutic intervention is identified. Coordinates and integrates information on all such referrals and assures provision of timely follow-up care as required. Refers patients for admission to acute medical inpatient specialty settings when care cannot be adequately provided. May also intermittently be responsible for administrative tasks: Clinic scheduling, equipment concerns at either facility
WIHCC/DMC.
Documents medical care appropriately in WIHCC electronic health record in accordance with WIHCC policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements, requirements of accreditation bodies and third-party payers. Develops productive and cooperative working relationship with health care providers within the facility as well as healthcare providers in outside hospitals nursing homes, and private practitioners throughout the community. Requires completion of tasks or duties assigned by a supervisor. Upholds all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent. Adheres to all professional and ethical behavior standards of the healthcare industry. Adheres to WIHCCs Personnel Policies and Procedures, departmental policies, rules, and regulations. Interacts in an honest, trustworthy and dependable manner with patients, employees, visitors, and vendors. Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity. Maintains compliance with all Human Resources requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a degree in medicine or osteopathy. Completion of accredited fellowship training in Cardiology; Board certified or eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology (required) and, License practice medicine in any of the 50 states, Arizona preferred. Bilingual skills in English and Navajo language preferred. Must maintain a valid unrestricted and insurable driver's license. Must successfully pass a background investigation and maintain suitable requirements for a Child Care position. This position is considered as a Child Care position, which requires a satisfactory background check investigation and is subject to the requirements of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, as amended (henceforth referred as the ICPFVP Act). Knowledge, Skills, Ability Knowledge and experience in cardiology medicine. Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, cultural and language differences. Knowledge of strong work ethics in the workplace. Knowledge of basic application of confidentiality. Knowledge of duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of basic computer skills, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to be dependable in attendance and job performance. Ability to meet attendance, overtime (if necessary), and other reliability requirements of the job. Ability to accept and learn from feedback. Ability to effectively communicate both in written and verbal. Ability to provide exemplary customer service at all times. Physical Demands:
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects and equipment, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively by talking and hearing. The employee frequently must stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and may occasionally use taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting or outdoor work environment with moderate noise levels. Work environment may involve exposure to physical risks, such as blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, or operating potential dangerous equipment, and requires adherence to all safety protocols. Required work schedules may include evening, weekend, overnight shifts, extended hours, or irregular schedules as operational needs dictate. As required by P.L. 93-638, absolute preference will be given to qualified Navajo applicants. If there is no qualified Navajo applicant, preference will be given to qualified American Indian applicants.
