Job Description

Psychiatrist Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) Make a Meaningful Impact in Public Service Psychiatry The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to join our team providing high-quality care to individuals within Georgia's public behavioral health system. DBHDD is the state agency responsible for services and supports for individuals living with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and intellectual and developmental disabilities . As Georgia's public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five adult mental health and forensic hospitals located in Columbus, Milledgeville, Decatur, Augusta, and Savannah . Our mission-driven team works every day to provide compassionate care while supporting recovery, safety, and community wellbeing. This position offers psychiatrists the opportunity to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment while making a direct impact on patient outcomes and the justice system. Position Overview As a Psychiatrist with DBHDD , you will play a key leadership role in the treatment and stabilization of individuals receiving inpatient psychiatric services.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading a multidisciplinary treatment team providing inpatient psychiatric stabilization. Providing clinical oversight and psychiatric treatment for individuals referred through the court system for competency restoration . Conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and medication management. Collaborating with psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other clinicians to develop comprehensive treatment plans. For psychiatrists with forensic training, opportunities may include: Conducting competency evaluations Providing expert testimony in court when appropriate. Caseloads and length of stay may vary by hospital location. Additional details are available upon request. Adult Mental Health Treatment Team The Adult Mental Health (AMH) Treatment Team delivers comprehensive psychiatric and medical services through: Patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning Medication management and clinical monitoring Leadership and coordination of nursing and clinical staff Participation in program development and quality improvement initiatives Opportunities to contribute to research and clinical advancement Benefits DBHDD offers a competitive state benefits package designed to support your professional and personal wellbeing.
