Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our gastroenterology team. This position will focus primarily on inpatient GI consultations, hospital rounding, and coordination of care at facilities in Crown Point, Indiana, and Harvey, Illinois. The APP will work closely with gastroenterologists, hospitalists, nursing teams, and other specialists to evaluate and manage hospitalized patients with gastrointestinal and liver-related conditions. The ideal candidate is organized, clinically confident, and comfortable working independently within a collaborative hospital environment. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits. Responsibilities Conduct inpatient gastroenterology consultations and daily hospital rounds. Obtain and document patient histories, physical examinations, assessments, and plans of care. Evaluate patients with gastrointestinal and liver-related conditions, including abdominal pain, GI bleeding, anemia, nausea, vomiting, dysphagia, abnormal liver tests, inflammatory bowel disease, and other digestive disorders. Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic testing. Develop and manage treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising gastroenterologist. Identify patients who may require endoscopic procedures and coordinate care with physicians, hospital departments, and procedural teams. Monitor patient progress, review treatment responses, and adjust care plans as clinically appropriate. Provide follow-up care after endoscopic procedures and communicate relevant findings and recommendations. Prescribe medications in accordance with state regulations, clinical protocols, and collaborative practice requirements. Coordinate care with gastroenterologists, hospitalists, surgeons, nursing staff, case management, and other healthcare professionals. Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up recommendations. Complete accurate and timely documentation within the hospital's electronic health record. Support safe discharge planning and arrange appropriate outpatient GI follow-up. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, hospital policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and the continued development of inpatient GI workflows. Qualifications Current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license. Current or eligible licensure in Illinois and Indiana, depending on assigned location. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Current national board certification. Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain registration. Current BLS certification; ACLS certification may be required. Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, documentation, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating with physicians and hospital-based teams. Ability to obtain hospital credentials and privileges at assigned facilities. Experience using an electronic health record system. Preferred Experience Previous gastroenterology or hepatology experience. Inpatient rounding or hospital medicine experience. Experience managing patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions. Familiarity with endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, and other GI procedures.
