Emergency Medicine Physician (Locum Tenens) Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 6-Month Assignment | 7 Shifts per Month | 12-Hour Day & Night Shifts | Zero Call Are you a Board Certified or Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician seeking an ongoing locum tenens opportunity in northern Michigan? A well-regarded 49-bed community hospital in Sault Ste. Marie is seeking an Emergency Medicine physician to provide regular monthly coverage. Featuring structured 12-hour shifts, predictable volume, dedicated trauma team support, and zero call obligations, this assignment provides an excellent balance of core emergency medicine practice and flexible block scheduling. The Opportunity Step into an active community emergency department delivering comprehensive acute care alongside experienced nursing staff and designated trauma support teams.
Clinical Scope:
Provide autonomous emergency care for a broad mix of bread-and-butter emergency medicine cases.
Core responsibilities include:
Evaluating, stabilizing, and managing acute adult and pediatric emergency presentations. Performing routine emergency diagnostic and bedside procedural interventions. Collaborating with hospitalists, specialty care teams, and surgical staff. Completing clinical documentation and order entry via Epic EMR .
The Schedule:
Ongoing 6-month assignment starting upon completion of credentialing.
Volume Commitment:
7 shifts per month (preferred in blocks of at least 4 consecutive shifts).
Shift Options:
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (Days) or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (Nights).
Call Requirements:
Zero call responsibilities.
Department Volume & Environment:
Paced, community hospital emergency department averaging approximately 45 patient visits per day .
Credentialing Timeline:
Streamlined 30-day credentialing process.
Candidate Requirements Board Status & Education:
Board Certified (BC) or Board Eligible (BE) in Emergency Medicine (BE candidates must be within 5 years of ACGME-approved residency completion).
Licensure:
Active, unencumbered Michigan State Medical License and active DEA, or an active IMLC Letter of Qualification.
Experience & Case Volume:
Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience and recent case logs documenting management of at least 50 emergency patients within the last 12 months.
Life Support:
Active ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS certifications.
Procedural Readiness:
Full comfort independently performing all standard bread-and-butter emergency medicine procedures.
