Full Job Description Surgical Coordinator/Ophthamology Full-Time Job Description:

This position is for someone with ophthalmic clinical knowledge or surgical counseling experience. It also requires excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and surgery facilities. The Surgery Coordinator must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Individual must be organized, and be able to manage demanding workload with accuracy.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

: Counseling/educating patients regarded surgery that has been recommended by their physicians such as cataract surgery, Cornea procedures (DMEK,DSEK, Pterygium removal & more), Glaucoma procedures (MIGS, Tubes, CPC, TCPC & more),Oculoplastic procedures (Blepharoplasty, MOHS & more) Discussing different options available for Cataract surgery & Refractive Lens Exchange along with cost related to upgrades Cosmetic Oculoplastic surgeries and cost. Schedules office, surgery center and hospital-based medical procedures for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling code. Enters notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Enter surgical procedures into Electronic Medical Record (EMR), sending information to referring provides and submitting proper billing for procedures. Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries as needed. Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding surgery preparations, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients. Confirms patients' insurance provider and that physician participates Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed. Completes pre-counseling phone calls, discussing upcoming evaluation appointment and pre-discussion for surgery and surgical options. Reviews discharge instructions with patients and ensures proper follow-up appointments are scheduled at the time the procedure is scheduled. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that organizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Assists other members of the department as needed. Run pre-surgical testing on day of surgical evaluation (A-Scan, B-scan, IOL master & Pentacam) Other duties as assigned. Will be expected to travel to our satellite clinics and other office locations.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma. Must have one year or more experience as a surgery counselor or ophthalmic technician.
