Family Physician - Direct Primary Care

Family Physician - Direct Primary Care Lantern Health is an independent, established direct primary care (DPC) practice with two locations in Asheville — and as we grow at our south Asheville location, we're looking for a physician who's ready to practice primary care as it is meant to be: grounded in a relationship between people, focused on an authentic experience, and crafted to help clients achieve optimal health.

Model :

DPC replaces fee-for-service billing with a simple monthly membership.

unhurried appointments, genuine relationships, transparent pricing, and a schedule that leaves room for a life outside of work. Further, it incentivizes keeping clients as healthy as possible. We care for patients across all ages and income levels, supported by a team of physicians, nurses, and health coaches — reachable in-person or through a privacy-protected app offering text, phone, and video access.

Opportunity :

You'd be joining a practice that's already growing — without the financial and administrative weight of building one from scratch. We're independent and physician-owned, with an active plan to convert to an employee-owned trust: a permanent legal guarantee that no outside investor or system can ever acquire or redirect the practice. Lantern stays in the hands of its people, anchored to its mission and focused on the communities of western North Carolina. We maintain a 4-day work week for all team members with shared call. New physicians start with a base salary to ease the transition, which grows with your panel up to a max of 500 clients.

Qualifications, Experience :

Required Education:

MD or DO Required License and Certifications:

NC Medical Board, BLS Healthcare Provider Preferred License and Certifications:

ACLM certification or similar added certification

Preferred Experience:

Two years of work in primary care and health care

Hours:

Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 8:30a-5p (1.0 FTE) work day; average 8-10 appointments per day + asynchronous messaging

Benefits :

Direct Primary Care membership + Sedera Health Medical Cost Sharing coverage for employee, access for spouse/domestic partner and dependents

Vacation/Sick:

20 days per year (note 4 days off = full week off) = 5 weeks per year

Holiday:

7 days per year

Continuing Education/CME:

3 days + stipend; coverage of NCMB, AAFP/NCAFP, and DEA dues

Retirement:

401k with 4% match after 90 days

Future:

Intention to provide Dental, Vision as move forward
