Job Description

Provide administrative support for surgical scheduling by accurately scheduling appointments, referrals, and ancillary studies. Optimize and organize surgical scheduling between operating room and surgical department. Responsible for templating in EMR for all department providers, due to clinic time, ER call, holidays, vacation time and continuing education time. Coordinate and complete department disability forms by reviewing EMR data to obtain necessary information. Use effective communication skills in patient interactions both in person and on the phone. Be able to perform a broad range of duties and have the ability to prioritize workload demands within the department. Demonstrate ability to work well as a member of a team and respond calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment. Should a Code Blue occur in the department, notify a nurse in the department. Should the Code Blue be in your area, alert patients to the expected delay due to an emergency within the department. Maintain provider schedules to include reminder calls to patients, cancellations and rescheduling of appointments for provider illness, vacation etc. Maintain current knowledge of insurance specifications and requirements (i.e. necessity for referrals, pre-certifications for exams and procedures, etc.) Minimum of High School diploma. 3-5 years' experience in healthcare within surgical services scheduling. Medical terminology required. Advanced understanding of EMR. Knowledge of current CPT codes preferred.
