Job Description

The Physician in the Division of Supportive Oncology serves as a key clinical member of an interprofessional team dedicated to the comprehensive supportive care of patients with cancer. Reporting directly to the Enterprise Director of Supportive Oncology, this physician will provide expert clinical care in palliative medicine and supportive oncology within the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) enterprise. The successful candidate will contribute to the division's clinical, research, and educational mission while working collaboratively with hematology/oncology colleagues, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), nursing, and other interprofessional staff across Jefferson Health sites with the primary site being in New Jersey locations. Job Description Education & Licensure Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution Completion of residency training in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Anesthesiology, Neurology, or a related applicable specialty Subspecialty fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) from an ACGME-accredited program — required Board certification or board eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (ABMS or AOA) Current and unrestricted medical licensure in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and DEA license or eligibility to obtain Experience 2 years of post-fellowship clinical experience in palliative medicine and/or supportive oncology — strongly preferred Demonstrated expertise in the clinical management of cancer-related pain, symptom burden, and psycho-oncology Experience in outpatient supportive oncology and/or palliative care clinic settings within a comprehensive cancer center environment is desirable Prior experience working within an interprofessional team model including APPs, nursing, social work, chaplaincy, and pharmacy Knowledge, Skills & Attributes Broad working knowledge of evidence-based approaches to cancer pain management, palliative symptom control, goals-of-care communication, and psycho-oncology Strong communication and interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary oncology colleagues Commitment to excellence in patient safety, the patient and family experience, and the delivery of compassionate, high-quality care Dedication to the academic mission, including teaching, mentorship, and scholarly activity Unwavering commitment to Jefferson's four-pillar mission: clinical care, academics (teaching/research), innovation, and philanthropy Major Responsibilities Clinical Care Provide high-quality, evidence-based outpatient consultative and longitudinal clinical care to patients with cancer experiencing pain, complex symptom burden, and other supportive care needs across Jefferson New and SKCCC enterprise sites Partner with hematology/oncology teams, disease-focused multidisciplinary groups, and other departments to ensure seamless, integrated supportive care is embedded throughout the cancer care continuum Conduct timely and thorough new patient consultations and follow-up visits, documenting care in accordance with institutional standards and regulatory requirements Adhere to Standards of Professional Care, division clinical policies, and SKCCC Enterprise Quality Committee guidelines to minimize care variation and optimize patient outcomes Support and participate in goals-of-care conversations, advance care planning, and transitions of care including hospice referral when appropriate Academic, Educational & Scientific Responsibilities Participate in the division's educational activities, including teaching medical students, residents, fellows, APPs, and nurses across Jefferson's academic programs Engage in and support clinical research within the Division of Supportive Oncology, contributing to the expansion of the division's research portfolio Contribute to the development and implementation of supportive oncology clinical trials in alignment with SKCCC Multidisciplinary Disease Groups Pursue academic productivity through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or grant activity, consistent with faculty rank and divisional expectations Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives within the division and broader cancer service line Institutional & Departmental Citizenship Attend and actively participate in required divisional, departmental, and SKCCC meetings as designated by the Enterprise Director and Department Chair Uphold standards of collegiality, professional behavior, and institutional citizenship across all functional areas and Jefferson campuses Support the division's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, consistent with Departmental and SKCCC policies and the Vice Chair for Diversity Programs' initiatives Perform such other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Enterprise Director, Supportive Oncology, or the Department Chair Working Conditions Primarily outpatient clinical setting across Jefferson New Jersey and SKCCC enterprise sites; inpatient consultative coverage may be optional depending on divisional need Regular travel between Jefferson New Jersey sites may be expected On-call responsibilities to be determined by division leadership in accordance with divisional staffing model Benefits Jefferson offers a comprehensive package of benefits for full-time and part-time colleagues, including medical (including prescription), supplemental insurance, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, short- and long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, tuition assistance, as well as voluntary benefits, which provide colleagues with access to group rates on insurance and discounts.
