Assignment runs November 1 17, 2026. Call frequency is 1 in 2.

License:

Active and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state

Certifications:
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery through ABS or AOBS
  • Current DEA
  • ATLS
  • ACLS
BLS Experience Needed:

Independent operating room experience in a community or rural hospital setting

Special Skills Needed:
  • Full-scope general surgery experience
  • Ability to independently perform routine general surgery procedures
  • Experience managing emergency department surgical consultations, inpatient surgical needs, and trauma activations
  • Ability to manage pre-operative, post-operative, and surgical clinic patients
  • Experience providing inpatient rounds and post-operative care
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Emergency Department, Hospitalist, Anesthesia, and OR Nursing teams
  • Experience documenting patient care in
RPMS/EHR

Credentialing /

Onboarding Time:

Expedited credentialing. IHS will complete credentialing and the federal background check within 15 business days following acceptance of the candidate s CV, license copies, and references. The candidate must be available November 1 17, 2026 and able to begin the credentialing process immediately.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide full-scope General Surgery services at a 75-bed Level III Trauma Center serving the Navajo Nation and surrounding tribal communities.
  • Perform routine general surgery procedures in the operating room, including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia procedures, bowel procedures, and soft-tissue procedures.
  • Evaluate and manage pre-operative, post-operative, and consultation patients in the surgery clinic.
  • Provide weekday night and weekend call coverage on a 1-in-2 rotation.
  • Respond to Emergency Department consultations, inpatient surgical needs, and trauma activations during call coverage. Trauma call volume is expected to be very minimal.
  • Round on surgical inpatients and manage post-operative care.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Department physicians, Hospitalists, Anesthesia providers, and OR Nursing teams.
  • Complete required clinical documentation using
RPMS/EHR.

Additional Requirements:
  • MD or DO
  • Must be able to successfully complete federal background screening and fingerprinting.
  • Must be available for the full November 1 17, 2026 assignment.
  • Must be able to initiate credentialing immediately.
