Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pediatric Physician or Physician Assistant to join our small, community-focused pediatric clinic in New Mexico. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive medical care to infants, children, and adolescents, ensuring their health, growth, and development are optimized. Essential Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care & Patient Assessments Conduct comprehensive physical exams, developmental screenings, and well-child visits in accordance with pediatric standards and state regulations. Review patient history and medical records to inform clinical decision-making. Diagnose acute and chronic health conditions, injuries, and illnesses. Diagnosis, Treatment & Prescriptions Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans. Prescribe medications and therapies consistent with New Mexico regulations and scope of practice. Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory and diagnostic tests. Preventive Care & Health Promotion Administer immunizations in accordance with CDC and NM immunization guidelines. Provide anticipatory guidance on nutrition, safety, behavior, and developmental milestones. Conduct health screenings and promote healthy lifestyles to patients and families. Patient & Family Education Clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment options, and medication instructions. Counsel families on disease management, nutrition, and behavioral health. Promote health literacy and empower families to participate actively in their children's healthcare. Community Outreach & Telehealth Support telemedicine initiatives to improve access to care in rural areas. Participate in health fairs, community events, and outreach programs at schools and daycare centers. Assist in developing marketing and community engagement strategies aligned with clinic goals. Collaboration & Teamwork Work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare providers. Contribute to the development and review of clinical protocols and policies. Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations and community health initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills Licensing & Certification:
Valid New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license with Pediatric certification (PNP-AC or PNP-BC preferred). DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances (if applicable). Current BLS and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are preferred but not required.
Experience:
Prior pediatric clinical experience preferred. Familiarity with rural healthcare delivery and community health needs.
Skills:
Fluency in English and Spanish (verbal and written) —
REQUIRED.
Excellent communication, cultural competency, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR), Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Knowledge of federal and New Mexico state laws governing nurse practitioner scope of practice.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
For Pediatric Physician:
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Completion of a pediatric residency program. Board certification or eligibility in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Current, unrestricted New Mexico Medical License. DEA registration for prescribing medications. Pediatric-specific certifications as required (e.g., Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)).
For Physician Assistant:
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Licensure & State Requirements (New Mexico) Current, unrestricted New Mexico Physician Assistant license. DEA registration for prescribing medications. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Work Environment & Physical Requirements Primarily based in the clinic; ability to stand for extended periods and assist with lifting or repositioning pediatric patients. Occasional travel for home visits, school visits, and community outreach. Flexibility to participate in community events, health fairs, and occasional after-hours shifts.
Shift:
Be in office/on-site up to 32-40 hours per week Two (2) Sundays a month, Monday through Wednesday Occasional overtime based on operational needs and upon approval
Day Clinic and Night Clinic Shift Availability Benefits:
Competitive hourly rate based on experience. Up to 64 hours of paid sick leave per year, accrued at one (1) hour per 30 hours worked, beginning on the first day of employment.
