Psychiatrist Samaritan Daytop Village is a leading human services organization in New York State serving over 38,000 New Yorkers annually across more than 60 locations through Transitional Housing, Community Based Services, and Residential and Outpatient programs. First Steps Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center (ICSC), operated by Samaritan Daytop Village in Rockland County, is a 24/7 program dually licensed by OMH and OASAS to provide rapid, short-term support for children ages 5+ and adults in mental health or substance use crisis. Our multidisciplinary team utilizes a trauma-informed, harm-reduction framework to stabilize individuals and connect them with long-term care while avoiding unnecessary emergency room visits. We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Psychiatrist at our Rockland Integrated Crisis Stabilization Center (ICSC). In this critical role, you will perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, manage complex withdrawal protocols, and oversee medication-assisted treatments (MOUD) for individuals in crisis. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will exercise independent medical judgment to develop disposition plans, manage co-occurring disorders, and ensure compliance withOMH/OASAS
standards. This position is ideal for a dedicated MD or DO with a strong background in emergency psychiatry or addiction medicine who is passionate about serving diverse, underserved populations in a fast-paced, trauma-informed environment.Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental status examinations usingDSM-5-TR
criteria for individuals in acute crisis. Manage acute intoxication and withdrawal protocols for substances including alcohol and opioids. Initiate and oversee medications for opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder such as buprenorphine and naltrexone. Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications while maintaining accurate documentation of clinical rationale and side effects. Perform suicide and self-harm risk assessments to develop effective safety plans and disposition strategies. Use ASAM and LOCUS criteria to determine the appropriate level of care and clinical pathway for patients. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of nurse practitioners, nurses, and counselors to coordinate integrated care. Provide clinical consultation and collaborative oversight for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. Complete timely documentation in the Avatar electronic health record in compliance with OMH and OASAS regulations. Ensure adherence to DEA requirements, I-STOP/PMP reviews, and federal confidentiality standards for substance use records. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and staff education on psychopharmacology and addiction medicine.Qualifications:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency with fellowship training in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine strongly preferred Active unrestricted New York State license to practice medicine Active DEA registration with schedule II-V privileges and authority to prescribe buprenorphine Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with subspecialty certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine preferred Current CPR/BLS certification with ACLS preferred Minimum of two years of post-residency experience in emergency psychiatry crisis services inpatient psychiatry or detoxification preferred Experience working with diverse underserved and justice-involved populations preferred Advanced clinical expertise in psychiatric emergencies suicide risk assessment and acute psychosis management Strong knowledge of substance use disorders withdrawal protocols including CIWA and COWS and MOUD Familiarity with Zero Suicide principles trauma-informed care and harm reduction models Proficiency with Electronic Health Records such as Avatar and e-prescribing software Excellent interdisciplinary communication and professional collaboration skills Additional Information This is a full-time exempt role with an annual salary of $200,000 - $283,000 with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, and tuition reimbursement.
