OVERVIEW
The Rheumatologist provides specialized care for patients with autoimmune and inflammatory conditions within a dermatology-focused practice. This role is integral to a collaborative care model, working closely with dermatologists to manage conditions such as psoriatic arthritis, lupus, vasculitis, and other systemic diseases with cutaneous manifestations. The physician will deliver comprehensive rheumatologic evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment while supporting an integrated approach to patient care that improves outcomes and enhances the patient experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Care Evaluate, diagnose, and manage rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions, including: Psoriatic arthritis Rheumatoid arthritis Systemic lupus erythematosus Ankylosing spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies Vasculitis and connective tissue diseases Perform comprehensive musculoskeletal and systemic evaluations Develop and implement individualized treatment plans Integrated Dermatology Collaboration Partner closely with dermatologists in co-managing patients with overlapping dermatologic and rheumatologic conditions Participate in coordinated care plans for patients on biologics and immunosuppressive therapies Provide consultative support for dermatology providers regarding systemic disease management Contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions and treatment planning Procedures & Treatments Prescribe and manage biologic therapies, DMARDs, and immunomodulators Perform joint injections and aspirations as indicated Monitor patients for treatment efficacy, side effects, and disease progression Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, etc.) Patient Experience Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care Educate patients on chronic disease management, medications, and lifestyle modifications Ensure a high level of patient satisfaction and engagement Documentation & Compliance Accurately document patient encounters, diagnoses, and treatment plans in EMR Ensure timely completion of charts and appropriate coding Adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) , OSHA, and all applicable federal and state regulations Follow best practices for prescribing and monitoring high-risk medications Collaboration & Leadership Work collaboratively with advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical protocol development Support education and training of staff related to rheumatologic conditions
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Training Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine Residency Completion of an accredited Rheumatology Fellowship Licensure & Certification Active and unrestricted medical license in the State of [Insert State(s)] Board Certified or Board Eligible in Rheumatology DEA license Experience Experience managing complex autoimmune and inflammatory diseases Experience with biologic therapies and immunosuppressive treatments Prior experience in a multidisciplinary or dermatology-integrated setting preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong expertise in rheumatologic disease diagnosis and management Knowledge of dermatologic manifestations of systemic disease Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills Strong communication and patient education abilities Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment Proficiency in EMR systems Professional Attributes Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care Strong collaboration and teamwork mindset High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability Dedication to continuous learning and evidence-based practice Physical Requirements Ability to perform physical examinations and procedures (e.g., joint injections) Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and computer use Work Environment Outpatient dermatology clinic with integrated specialty care Collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment Moderate to high patient volume Flexibility Clause This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the role.
