Psychiatrist / Medical Director About Northstar Recovery Center Northstar Recovery Center is a growing outpatient behavioral health organization serving individuals across Massachusetts. Northstar is dually licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) as a Mental Health Clinic and by Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) for Day Treatment services. We provide comprehensive mental health and substance use disorder treatment in a collaborative, patient-centered environment focused on long-term recovery and wellness. We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director and provide psychiatric oversight for adult outpatient behavioral health programming at our locations in Southborough and West Springfield, Massachusetts. Position Overview The Psychiatrist / Medical Director will provide medical leadership and psychiatric oversight for outpatient mental health and substance use disorder programming, including psychiatric day treatment services. This role offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary clinical team dedicated to delivering high-quality behavioral healthcare. The position includes supervision and collaboration with Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), psychopharmacology oversight, and participation in program development and quality improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Serve as Medical Director for outpatient behavioral health and psychiatric day treatment programming. Provide psychiatric oversight and consultation for patients. Supervise and collaborate with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) and APRNs. Support psychopharmacology management and treatment planning. Ensure compliance with applicable DPH, BSAS, and accreditation standards. Collaborate closely with the Clinical Director and leadership team regarding patient care, operations, and program development. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case consultations. Help maintain high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and evidence-based psychiatric care. Assist with policy development, quality assurance initiatives, and clinical best practices. Qualifications Required Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution Current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry Completion of a psychiatric residency program accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (or equivalent) DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration. Preferred Experience in substance use disorder treatment and co-occurring disorders. Prior supervisory or Medical Director experience. Familiarity with DPH, BSAS, and/or The Joint Commission standards and regulations.
