Job Description

HEMATOLOGIST/ONCOLOGIST VA PROVIDENCE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM PROVIDENCE, RI A
sign-on bonus or relocation incentive is available for qualified candidates. As a member of the world-class VA Providence Healthcare System, the Hematology/Oncology Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, medical management, and treatment for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions. Responsibilities include the medical management of general medical issues encountered in the course of caring for this patient population. Successful completion of an accredited fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, and board certification board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology, is preferred.
Primary Duties Include:
  • Evaluating, diagnosing, consulting, and medically managing hematology/oncology patients, including associated general medical conditions.
  • Admitting patients to inpatient services or the appropriate level of care.
  • Performing complete history and physical examinations.
  • Ordering and providing preliminary interpretation of EKGs, imaging studies, and laboratory tests.
  • Conducting palliative care consultations.
  • Selecting, initiating, and administering chemotherapeutic agents through all therapeutic routes for cancer treatment.
  • Assessing tumor imaging through CT, MRI, PET, and nuclear imaging techniques.
  • Performing serial measurements of tumor mass.
  • Conducting bone marrow aspiration and biopsy procedures.
  • Ordering therapeutic phlebotomy when indicated.
Work Schedule :
