ExemptDESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Hospitalist is responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient medical care through daily rounding, care coordination, and patient management under the collaboration of supervising physicians. This role supports the hospitalist service by evaluating and managing hospitalized patients, executing treatment plans, and documenting care in the electronic health record. The APP may also be required to function in an admitting capacity, including performing initial patient evaluations, ordering diagnostics, initiating treatment plans, and coordinating admissions. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care.POSITION REQUIREMENTS JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
If aPhysician Assistant:
Bachelors Degree required. Successful completion of a CAAHEP approved program. Successful completion of a national certifying examination given by NCCPA. If anNurse Practitioner:
Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursing. Graduate of an approved NLN or equivalent nursing program.EXPERIENCE
Prefer minimum 3 years practice work experience as a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (Hospital Medicine, Internal Medicine) Nocturnist APP must be comfortable and proficient with running codes and procedures.JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

(JOBSPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
): 1. Admission Competencies Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for new admissions. Develop accurate differential diagnoses and evidence-based initial treatment plans. Order and interpret diagnostic studies (labs, imaging, EKGs) appropriately and efficiently. Utilize hospital admission order sets, pathways, and protocols correctly. Demonstrate effective communication with ED providers and bed management to support throughput. Prioritize multiple simultaneous admissions and manage workflow independently. 3. Clinical Decision-Making & Critical Thinking Apply evidence-based practice standards and hospital clinical guidelines. Demonstrate sound clinical judgment during high-acuity or uncertain situations. Independently manage competing priorities during high-volume nights. Accurately assess risk and determine appropriate admission status (observation vs. inpatient). 5. Communication & Collaboration Provide clear and concise handoffs to daytime teams, ensuring continuity of care. Communicate effectively with nursing staff, ED teams, consultants, and ancillary services. Use closed-loop communication for urgent updates or critical abnormal results. Educate patients and families when appropriate during admission. 6. Documentation & Compliance Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation that supports medical necessity and billing requirements. Maintain clear admission notes, cross-cover notes, and event/rapid response documentation. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, CMS requirements, and regulatory standards. Document in accordance with risk, complexity, and evaluation requirements. 7. Patient Safety & Quality Adhere to hospital safety bundles (sepsis, DVT prophylaxis, glycemic control, antimicrobial stewardship). Recognize and address safety events, near misses, and documentation gaps. Participate in quality initiatives such as mortality reviews, readmission reduction, or throughput improvement. Maintain situational awareness during high-volume or high-acuity nights. 8. Medication Management Safely prescribe inpatient medications, including titration and monitoring of high-risk meds. Appropriately manage anticoagulation, insulin protocols, and sepsis-related medications. Apply renal dosing, drug-drug interaction awareness, and formulary guidelines. + Annual Review of Fire/Safety/Disaster Plan 9. Professional Development Maintain BLS, ACLS, and any hospital-required specialty certifications. Participate in continuing education and mandatory training (e.g., airway updates, sepsis modules, stroke education). Engage in peer review, case review, and performance feedback activities. Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning in hospital medicine. 10. Systems Knowledge & Workflow Efficiency Understand hospital policies, escalation pathways, and chain of command. Navigate the EMR efficiently, including order entry, messaging, and documentation tools. Demonstrate the ability to manage high patient volumes while maintaining safety and accuracy.
