N/A We're seeking an Emergency Medicine locum tenens physician to join a hospital-based team in Lebanon, VA. This is clinical-only coverage starting 08/01/2026 and continuing on an ongoing basis. Shifts are 12 hours (7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.). You'll be working in a 53-bed acute care department (including 5 ICU/PCU beds) using Epic for documentation. Patient care focuses on adults and geriatrics across a typical emergency medicine case mix; admissions and rounding are part of the role. Tele-support is available for admissions and floor calls, and one other MD covers days while one covers nights. This assignment is for supplemental coverage.
Required credentials and compliance:
Active, unrestricted VA medical license and DEA with a VA address (appropriate schedules). Board certification in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine. ACLS, ATLS, and PALS required unless board-certified or trained in EM; NRP required for non-ABEM providers. Graduate of an accredited MD or DO program and completion of an
ACGME/AOA
residency in EM, FM, or
IM. ECFMG
certification required for international graduates. Case logs for the last two years and willingness to supervise NP and PA providers. New EM residency graduates may be considered; a 3-month proctorship is required for recent graduates. Hospital privileges must be obtained.
Clinical responsibilities:
Provide emergency care during assigned 12-hour shifts: evaluate, diagnose, treat, and document patient care in Epic. Collaborate with tele-support for admissions and inpatient issues. Supervise nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Compensation, travel, lodging, and malpractice details are to be determined. There are no required procedures beyond routine EM practice. Telehealth experience is not required.
