Physician (Regional Ampution Center Director-Supervisory) Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administrion VA Puget Sound Health Care System Summary The VA Puget Sound is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Physician in Physical Medicine & Rehabilition (PM&R) to serve as the Director of the Regional Ampution Center (RAC) providing expert amputee rehabilition care, directing regional systems of care, supervising RAC staff, and supporting educion and research. Videos Duties Help The Director of the Regional Ampution Center is a PM&R physician trained in an accredited residency and board-certified or board-eligible, with licensure to practice in any U.S. ste. The role requires advanced expertise in amputee rehabilition, including prosthetic evaluion, prescription, and outcome assessment. An amputee fellowship is preferred. The physician must demonstre broad skills in diagnosing and treing acute and chronic rehabilition conditions and providing consultive services. Clinical Responsibilities Provide expert level clinical care in the PM&R specific evaluions, diagnoses and trement of all aspects of amputee rehabilition. Included here is expertise in post ampution pain, ampution outcome assessment, prosthetic prescription, and gait evaluion of individuals with prosthetic devices. Develop local and regional systems of care th will result in the highest quality of care for pients th are pending, or have undergone ampution. Develop and utilize telehealth practices to enhance the regional care of amputee pients. Provide expertise and leadership in the development of system wide standardized pient evaluions and standardized outcome assessment. Utilize effective communicion skills all levels to enhance team functioning, pient care coordinion, and leadership. Provide clinical care for all general rehabilition populions, including electro-diagnostic evaluions, as needed. Provide consultion to professional staff within VAPSHCS & community providers concerning clinical assessment findings and approprie pient trement plans. Develop, implement and document the PM&R trement plan for an assigned caseload of pients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders. Functions independently as a member of the VAPSHCS Medical Staff, with full clinical privileges. Provides educion to pients, family members and significant others. Teaching & Training Develops innovive educional merials and processes to enhance the expertise of providers from a wide array of backgrounds, within the medical center, university, and the community, within VISN 20 and VISN 22, the geographic region defined by the RAC. Active involvement in teaching and curriculum development in the UW PM&R Annual Review Module for Ampution Rehabilition and Gait and the UW PM&R Resident Ampution and Prosthetics course annually. Provides clinical supervision & instruction for UW PM&R Residents, as well as medical students as assigned. Participes in educional programs, may provide presentions local & nional level conference & educional events. Develops innovive educional merials and processes to enhance pient and family educion. Participes a local, regional or nional level in subspecialty societies or pient organizions. Position will require a faculty appointment the University of Washington, School of Medicine. Administrive Responsibilities Develops and implements a stregic plan to accomplish the goals of the VA Nional Ampution System of Care. Provides leadership to facilite the development of a coordined amputee rehabilition care program throughout VISN 20 and VISN 22, the region designed by the RAC. Communice effectively with leadership all levels within

Puts systems in place to monitor the effectiveness of the ampution clinical program though quality improvement processes and ongoing program evaluion. Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of CARF Specialty Certificion as an Ampution Specialty Care Program. Work Schedule:

Basic Requirements:
United Stes Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (
NOTE:
VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in
ACGME/AOA
accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Experience working with Amputee Pients in Inpient/Outpient Setting Scholarly Work Experience (Research or Educion) Amputee Fellowship Experience working with upper extremity amputees Experience providing full rehabilitive assessments to general rehabilition populion

Approved schools are:
Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Educion (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteophic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteophic College Accredition of the American Osteophic Associion for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical gradues not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educional Commission for Foreign Medical Gradues (ECFMG) th the applicant has met requirements for certificion, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certifice, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certifice, facility officials must still confirm th the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candide gradued.]

The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician gradue of a school of medicine not covered above if the candide is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrive position with no pient care responsibilities.
