Videos Duties Help The Chief of Gerirics and Extended Care (GEC) is a physician who works under the leadership and direction of the Associe Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Medicine Service (MS) the Tomah VAMC in Tomah, WI. The Chief will provide administrive and clinical oversight and actively involved in the decisions th support the function and goals of the GEC areas. This position encompasses the Community Living Centers loced in GEC as well as Home Based Primary Care (HBPC). Providers in GEC are responsible for inpient care, Home Based Primary Care panels, gradue medical educion, and scientific research as approprie. This position will provide oversight to Geriric Medicine in the GEC Service Line. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards . No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The Chief of GEC, should possess clinical experience, be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and possess experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. It is preferred th the incumbent is board certified in Geriric Medicine. This individual will perform a variety of complex tasks and will lead and direct work of others. The Chief of GEC will also perform as a backup provider for the Hospitalist/Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) and placed in a standard rotion for coverage when needed. This job requires knowledge of acute illness, complex chronic diseases, and mental illnesses as well as end-of-life care. He/she must be familiar with administrive procedures, quality measurement, regulions reled to the practice of medicine, Long-Term Care Standards, The Joint Commission, Long-Term Care surveying bodies and other regulory standards pertinent to Gerirics and Extended Care.Work Schedule:

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (NOTE:
VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled inACGME/AOA
accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.Additional Requirement:
