Responsibilities Clinical Duties:
Examine, diagnose, and treat a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including diseases, injuries, and deformities. Perform comprehensive wound care and minor surgical procedures. Fit patients for custom orthotics and provide physical therapy and medication as needed. Interpret diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and gait analysis, to develop personalized treatment plans. Manage patient records and clinical documentation in compliance with our Patient Privacy and HIPAA Compliance Policy . Actively participate in our internal training and policy updates to stay current with American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and OSHA best practices. Travel to and provide care at partner nursing home facilities.
Administrative Duties:
Examine, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and deformities of the foot, ankle, and related structures of the leg. This is the core function, encompassing everything from routine care to complex cases. Administrative Duties Manage patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. This includes thorough and accurate documentation of all patient encounters, diagnoses, treatments, and communications. Coordinate with administrative staff to ensure a smooth patient flow, from scheduling and check-in to billing and follow-up. Assist with billing documentation and insurance verification as needed, ensuring that services are properly coded and that patients' insurance information is correct. Provide comprehensive wound care , a critical duty given the high prevalence of foot-related wounds, particularly in patients with diabetes or vascular issues. Perform minor surgical procedures , such as ingrown toenail removals, wart excisions, and other in-office procedures. Administer medication and physical therapy , including prescribing oral medications, giving injections, and guiding patients through therapeutic exercises. Interpret diagnostic tests , like X-rays, MRIs, and gait analysis, to formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans. Fit patients for orthotics , which involves taking molds or scans of patients' feet and prescribing custom orthotic inserts. Conduct patient consultations and provide pre- and post-operative care instructions to ensure successful outcomes. Travel to and provide care at partner nursing home facilities , extending the practice's services to a crucial patient population that may have mobility issues.
Compliance & Safety:
Follow all OSHA safety protocols and clinic infection control procedures. Ensure the proper and safe disposal of all biohazardous materials. Actively participate in regular training and policy updates to stay current with best practices. Adhere to all clinic business policies, including those related to patient care, and employee conduct, to ensure consistent and professional operations. Qualifications Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited school. Completion of a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency (PMSR) program. Current and unrestricted Louisiana license to practice Podiatric Medicine. Current DEA registration . Board certification or eligibility is preferred. Specialized training or experience in wound care is highly preferred. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Proficiency with software such as Windows 365, and Outlook. Exceptional communication and organizational skills . A compassionate, patient-focused approach to care. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills . Experience in a clinical or hospital setting . Current CPR certification . Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the day. Manual dexterity necessary to assist with procedures and handle medical equipment. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Frequent bending, stooping, or kneeling. Repetitive hand and wrist movements. Ability to push or pull on equipment. Good vision, including the ability to see fine details. Ability to maintain a steady hand during procedures. Tolerance for a variety of postures while working.
