Title of Position:
School Psychologist/Behaviorist Definition:
Under the supervision of the Director of Intervention Services and Alternative Programs, applies scientific principles of behavior to ameliorate behavior problems and to facilitate human development of children in the public schools in accordance with State law and District policies and procedures.Responsible to:
Director of Intervention Services and Alternative Programs Psychologist (examples of duties): l. To implement the philosophy, goals, objectives and policies of the District as adopted by the Board of Education. 2. Provide psychological consultation services in the following areas:(a) The establishment of standards of expected student progress and techniques for the assessment of that progress. (b) The creation of flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. (c) The establishment and maintenance of proper student conduct. 3. Participate singly or as part of a consultancy team with the teacher. 4. Participate in site Student Study Team meetings as appropriate. 5. Provide in-service training to school, parent or student groups in such areas as communication skills, behavior management, educational diagnosis and measurement of learning. 6. Provide counseling services to students and parents as appropriate. 7. Conduct diagnostic educational assessment and interpret findings to teachers and parents. 8. Recommend appropriate behavioral and instructional interventions to meet student needs. 9. Identify, place, re-evaluate and help plan for students in special programs in accordance with State law and local policy. 10. Assign students that come to the District with existing Individual Educational Programs for special services to appropriate educational placements. 11. Arrange for provision of necessary special education services by other educational agencies in theSELPA. 12.
Assist in identifying children with needs beyond the scope of school services and facilitate referral to an appropriate agency. 13. Keep pertinent record, including psychological reports of individual assessments. 14. Serve as psychological consultant to school, parent or community groups on request. 15. Participate in professional growth experiences. 16. Keep informed of research and new methods related to psychological services and the learning process. 17. Work cooperatively with professional organizations in the development of psychological and educational programs that articulate with our District goals. 18. Supervise counseling and school psychology field work students as requested by training institutions. 19. Work cooperatively with community agencies to jointly meed the needs of students. 20. Perform other duties as assigned. Behaviorist (Examples of Duties): 1. Implement the philosophy, goals, objectives and policies of the District 2. Develop, implement and evaluate an alternative learning environment focusing on appropriate behavior 3. Provide training opportunities in conflict resolution, behavior management and classroom supervision 4. Consult with student study teams regarding the development and implementation of behavior plans 5. In consultation with staff, parents and students, develop, implement and evaluate prevention and intervention programs. To assist students with appropriate behavior 6. Recommend specific behavioral interventions to meet student needs.Qualifications:
