Job Description

Category Schools - Counselor Job Type Contract An exceptional contract opportunity is now available for skilled mental health professionals passionate about supporting students' well-being. This position involves providing Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) across a public school district serving multiple sites near San Mateo, California. The need is districtwide and itinerant, spanning Early Childhood through high school transition programs. Assignments run from August 11, 2026, to June 2, 2027, comprising 35 on-site hours weekly.
Key Qualifications:
Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work Valid California licensure as LPCC, LMFT, or LCSW (or BBS Associate registration: AMFT, APCC, or ASW while accruing hours) Minimum 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience Successful completion of California Law and Ethics Exam and relevant clinical exam Experience working with children/adolescents in educational or clinical settings Ability to travel between multiple school sites Live Scan fingerprinting and background clearance required Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
Role Responsibilities:
Deliver direct mental health services to students, including individual and group counseling interventions Support crisis intervention, behavioral assessments, and coordinated care with school teams Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and document progress per district and ERMHS requirements Collaborate with families, teachers, and other support staff for holistic student support Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary teams for student success Manage a diverse caseload with flexibility and cultural sensitivity Maintain compliance with district, state, and ethical regulations Embrace the chance to play a vital part in students' growth while working alongside a collaborative and skilled school-based team.
