Asheville DBT & Trauma is seeking to hire a postdoctoral candidate for the following academic year 2026-2027. Dates are flexible and strong candidates will be eagerly invited to join our team permanently after the year is over. Full-time remote options are not available, you will need to on site
TWO DAYS
per week in our outpatient group therapy practice in Downtown Asheville to see clients in-person and join team meetings. Hybrid virtual option exists if requested for the remainder of the week. Weeknights (until 7pm) OR one weekend required to help fill caseload quicker. Postdoctoral psychology therapist will be given weekly supervision and specialized training in evidence-based practices, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and DBT Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) one of the only trauma therapies for suicidal clients. The opportunity for further specialization will be offered in crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), ERP (exposure response prevention OCD treatment), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Interest working with children/adolescents/families/couples is strongly preferred. We would like this year to be a year that can help you specialize your career by selecting a niche population you enjoy working with and creating the opportunity to do so. One day per week will be for didactics and in-house trainings, consultations, and learning activities. You will be asked to help supervise Clinical Psychology PsyD students and provide Lunch & Learn weekly trainings to staff on trainings received. You will be invited to join a small team of approximately 10 practitioners that focus on providing DBT and trauma therapy within our community. We have a beautiful office building in a historic Downtown Asheville building. We have weekly case consultation meetings and office hours, crisis support, and an open door policy -- allowing for optimum support and growth. A full time caseload consists of 20 clients and co-facilitating two therapy groups. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week. There is the opportunity for testing, if interested, as we hope and plan to expand to offer testing in the near future. There is the opportunity for growth and to stay on as part of the team, as we are looking to grow our team with highly qualified candidates and interns. Applicants with DBT and/or trauma training and experience are highly preferred; however, all candidates will be considered. Some experience with DBT, trauma therapy, or crisis intervention is required. Candidates must be okay working with higher-risk clients, work well under pressure, open to new experiences, and enjoy a teamwork approach. Pay will be provided per service, as a W2 employee, which may take some time to build a caseload. Support with marketing, advertising, networking, billing, and administrative tasks provided.
