Job Description

Rio Grande Cancer Specialists is currently looking for a Radiation Therapist to join our team! As a member of RGCS's radiation oncology team, the Certified Radiation Therapist is responsible for the accurate administration of prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation in the treatment of diseases, primarily cancer. Works under the direction of the Medical Physicist and/or clinical Oncologist. Uses a variety of complex, radiation techniques and equipment. Maintains credentials and certifications related to practice.

Ability to use an integrated team approach. Able to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks. Able to maintain a positive attitude and provide emotional support to patients. Ability to obtain and interpret information while considering each patient's specific needs. Able to understand patient's education and medical needs. Perform venipuncture as prescribed by physician. Ability to identify, prepare, and/or administer medications as prescribed by physician. Able to operate radiation/radiology oncology equipment. Ability to evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded. Ability to perform procedures regarding quality assurance, emergency shutdown and guidelines that pertain to the operation manuals for radiation equipment. Able to identify and safely respond to emergency situations. Able to demonstrate compassion and consideration in dealing with others. Ability to project a pleasant and professional demeanor.
Knowledge:
Understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Comprehension of oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, radiation oncology techniques, radiation safety, and the psychological aspects of cancer treatment are required. Understanding of optical guidance system, respiratory gating, and Stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy (SRS/SRT) when available. Knowledge of principles of sterile technique. Knowledge of CPR procedures and outcomes. Knowledge of principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Broad knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Equipment Operated:
Varian Clinac 21iX with on-board imaging (OBI) Medical imaging devices (e.g.
CT, PET, MR
) 120 Multi-leaf Collimator (MLC) Standard medical exam/office equipment
Education:
Graduate of an AMA accredited Radiation Therapy certification program. Associate's Degree in Radiation Therapy preferred. Must be licensed in the State of Texas to practice as a Radiation Therapist. Current and verifiable registration in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current CPR certification required. Continuing education is expected to maintain and enhance competency and performance.
