Newport News, Virginia Up to $15,000 sign on bonus!!! This position is eligible for our new team member incentive program. In accepting this position, new team members may be eligible for a bonus of up to $15,000 over the course of your first 2 years with Riverside! It pays to stay! Overview Radiation Therapist III performs advanced and specialized procedures in Radiosurgery or Radiation Oncology to include all aspects of simulation and treatment within the scope of a radiation therapist for at least two of the following procedures: stereotactic body radiosurgery treatments (SBRT) gamma knife treatments, high dose rate brachytherapy treatments (HDR), and/or surface guided radiation therapy (SGRT). What you will do Performs two of the following: Advanced stereotactic radiosurgery treatments to tumors of the brain in collaboration with the entire clinical team to include Radiation Oncologists, Neurosurgeons, physicists, and RNs. Is proficient in use of the gamma knife unit and all associated equipment for this modality. Advanced stereotactic radiosurgery treatment to tumors in all other areas of the body as prescribed by the radiation Oncologist and in collaboration with the clinical team to include Radiation Oncologists and physicists. Is proficient in the use of the stereotactic linac and maintains proficiency with linac-based SBRT upgrades and enhancements. High dose rate brachytherapy treatments to gynecological and other cancers in collaboration with the entire clinical team to include Radiation Oncologists, physicists, and RNs. Maintains proficiency in use of the afterloader and all associated equipment for this modality. Surface guided radiation therapy treatments as prescribed for certain diagnoses for enhanced setup accuracy and real-time intra-fraction motion monitoring. Maintains proficiency with the use of the camera based system and software and all associated integrated workflows for this modality. The role involves specialized training to operate and treat on specialized units and software in the delivery of these advanced treatments. Quality assurance tasks specific to the modalities and treatment delivery standards are required, as well as in depth annual radiation safety training for gamma knife and HDR. Training for required safety controls is necessary for gamma knife. Checks prescription and treatment plan for accuracy and required physician approval prior to treatment. Ensures all required QA has been performed and reviewed prior to treatment. Verifies completion and accuracy of consent. Performs timeout prior to all procedures. Uses tattoos, setup marks, and/or surface guided camera based software appropriately and consistently for patient setup. Uses imaging equipment to verify and document isocenter prior to treatment, and/or camera based system for real-time intra-fraction motion monitoring. Troubleshoots technical setups and or treatment machine faults and interruptions by collaborating with MDs, physicists, and fellow team members to ensure accurate treatment. Demonstrates knowledge of conventional and stereotactic radiosurgery techniques to include constructing custom immobilization devices specific to each patient, performing simulations utilizing appropriate imaging techniques in accordance to protocol with regard to treatment site. Ensures all information for patient treatment is documented and communicated appropriately for handoff. Explains treatment process to patient, to include what to expect during treatment delivery, and answers questions to ensure understanding. Follows safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals, RHS Team Up For Safety, and the RHS Code of Ethics. Follows DNV protocols. Complies with HIPAA guidelines, places patient-confidential information in secure areas. Uses individual log on for computer applications. Follows time-out, infection control, and fall policies. Supports PI activities. Reports and documents equipment issues in a timely manner and reports safety concerns or deviations though the hospital rCare system. Manages treatment schedules efficiently. Pro-actively notifies patients regarding delays or cancellations. Demonstrates ability to prioritize and accomplish assignments with accuracy and timeliness (meeting work schedules, work assignments completed by deadlines). Assists with data used to measure the quality of patient care and/or work processes. Positively on boards new staff. Accurate billing. Qualifications Education Bachelors Degree, Radiation Therapy (Preferred) Experience 3-4 years Clinical experience or program experience in radiation therapy with knowledge specific to stereotactic therapy concepts and other advanced techniques (Preferred) Skills and Abilities Stereotactic body radiosurgery treatments (SBRT) , gamma knife treatments, high dose rate brachytherapy treatments (HDR), and surface guided radiation therapy (SGRT) ( at least two required) Compentencies/ training must be completed, noted as proficient in modalities.
