Job Description

Job Summary :
Performs a variety of imaging procedures while being responsible for patient/radiation safety. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Properly follows doctor's orders for imaging exams and carefully screens the patients. Produces quality images for the radiologist allowing for accurate imaging diagnosis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients. Responsible for safe handling of equipment and films. Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic and/or fluoroscopic examinations. Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure. Determines most suitable anatomical posture, while following department policy and protocol, and positions and shields patients accordingly. Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Able to perform barium studies and other special/fluoroscopic procedures within scope of license. Programs stationary x-ray machines and takes radiographs for a variety of examinations as prescribed. Reviews and processes images for storage by ensuring the proper views were obtained according to department protocol and the exam is attached to the proper patient. Practices medical and surgical asepsis. Assists in gathering appropriate supplies to perform various invasive/interventional procedures. Takes call according to monthly schedule, after regular department hours or as directed by department policy. Cross trains into other areas of the department (CT) as needs arise or as directed by department policy. Assists in maintaining basic records, reports and files. Assists in gathering appropriate supplies to perform various invasive/interventional procedures. Is acquainted with local fire and safety regulations. Knows process for adding/canceling appointments for daily patient workload. Enters patient information and accepts orders in the computer system. Completes all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes communicating with the next on-coming shift. Assists in locating patient files and corresponding paperwork as needed by the radiologist for a final interpretation. Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel. Interacts professionally with patient, family, co-workers and students. Helps maintain the radiology department equipment and assists in cleaning the department, except for those duties pertaining directly to the Environmental Services personnel. Practices proper body mechanics and instructs others in proper mechanics during patient transport and lifting. Replenishes medical supplies/exam room stock. Must be able to understand written and oral instructions pertaining to department /equipment operations. Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including: pediatric, geriatric and general population. Instructs and prepares patient for exams. Employee adheres to and practices the standards of performance outlines in the Standards of Performance handbook Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's/department/s Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or, upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Office or hospital hotline.
Professional Requirements:
Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels. Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time system correctly. Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. Attends staff meetings; reads and initials all monthly staff meeting minutes. Maintains hospital requirements, policies and standards of confidentiality. Actively participates in performance improvement (PI) and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
Regulatory Requirements:
Current certification by the State of Florida and ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) to practice and administer radiation. CT certification with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) is highly recommended. Current BCLS certification. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Computer literacy is essential.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.
