Posting Details Posting Details Posting Number H0496P Classification Part-time/Hourly Instructor Position Number Position Title Dialysis Technician Instructor Status of Position Hourly - Year Round FLSA Non Exempt Position Summary Prairie State College seeks an experienced part-time hourly instructor to teach Dialysis Technician (Saturdays and evenings preferred). Successful candidates will have the desire to engage a diverse student population. Reporting Relationship Directly reports to Manager Workforce and Community Partnerships - Workforce Professions Essential Responsibilities 1. Explain basic chemistry of blood fluids, renal physiology, and the pathology of renal failure. 2. Explain the principles of hemodialysis including the dialysate, dialyzer, delivery system, and water treatment for dialysis. 3. Explain the safety procedures in performing the tasks assigned to the dialysis technician. 4. Identify specific supplies and equipment used in selected dialysis procedures. 5. Explain the precautions and guidelines in performing the preparation, assessment, monitoring, and care of a dialysis patient. 6. Define quality of care, and explain the impact of medical care on a patient when quality and safety are compromised in dialysis procedures. 7. Plan for instructional activities supporting curriculum. 8. Follow current course outlines, objectives, and evaluation mechanisms. 9. Maintain a lesson plan of daily instructional activities. 10. Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable manner covering all objectives outlined in the course syllabus. 11. Use appropriate Learning Management Systems (LMS), and assessment tools to ensure learning outcomes are being met. 12. Monitor student attendance and retention and documents (as required). 13. Plan and update the curriculum for instructional activities including lectures, class discussions, and exams. 14. Effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals. 15. Advise students as it relates to school policies and satisfactory performance and maintain communication with the program coordinator regarding such activity. 16. Grade assignments, return graded assignments to students, and assign final satisfactory/unsatisfactory grades for all students in a timely manner. 17. Process course midterm and end grades according to policy. 18. Monitor all equipment and supply inventory for repair and/or replenishment (as required). 19. Submit timely, written notice of textbook, supply, instructional and equipment needs to the program coordinator (as required). 20. Communicate with the program coordinator and/or manager on challenges or noteworthy issues or concerns related to students. 21. Maintain on-time attendance and schedule adherence. 22. Maintain a positive attitude and support a commitment to departmental excellence. 23. Maintain instructional service levels and productivity with efficiency, accuracy, and quality. 24. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the department, consistent with the role of this position. Other Duties and Responsibilities Minimum Qualifications 1. Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician 2. Three years of experience in a directly related field 3. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Instructional/training experience Preferred Qualifications 1. Associate or equivalent degree in biology, nephrology, medical technology or a related field 2. Experienced user of education LMS (preferably Desire2Learn) 3. Experience teaching, especially at the community college level 4. Experience working with culturally and intellectually diverse groups 5.
