Job Description

POSITION
 SUMMARY The MRI Imaging Assistant supports MRI technologists in delivering high‑quality patient care and ensuring safe, efficient MRI operations within the outpatient environment. This position plays a key role in patient preparation, screening, communication, and safety , consistent with ARRT Imaging Assistant (Magnetic Resonance) Standards of Education (2025). All activities occur under the immediate supervision of a registered MRI technologist or imaging supervisor. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Patient Care and Interaction Greet patients and verify identity using two unique identifiers before any procedure. Conduct and document MRI screening questionnaires; clarify unclear responses and Stop and Escalate safety uncertainties to the technologist or MR Safety Officer. Educate patients on procedure expectations, time requirements, and communication methods (call bell/intercom). Assist with positioning, comfort aids, and modesty draping as directed. Support contrast preparation and post‑injection observation per protocol (no injections unless credentialed). Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and engage qualified interpreters when language barriers arise. Maintain strict HIPAA confidentiality and professional decorum at all times. 2. MRI Safety and Operational Support Control access to MRI Zones I-IV; ensure ferrous objects remain outside restricted areas. Inspect coils, pads, and accessories before each exam; clean and disinfect between patients. Safely handle ancillary equipment labeled MR Safe/MR Conditional. Report equipment faults, tripping hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately; Stop and Escalate any risk. Assist with patient transfers using proper body mechanics and safe handling devices. Support emergency responses (contrast reaction, syncope, seizure) until medical personnel assume care. 3. Administrative and Documentation Duties Complete electronic screening forms, patient flow logs, and quality checklists accurately. Record contrast lot numbers, reaction details, and incident reports as directed. Maintain clean, organized MRI suite and restock MRI‑safe supplies. Participate in continuing education, safety drills, and annual competency evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required High school diploma or 
GED. BLS
 certification (or earned within 90 days of hire). Completion of approved MRI Imaging Assistant Structured Education Program or
ARRT MRI IA
program commitment to complete within onboarding period. Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA, infection control, and basic medical terminology. Preferred Experience in radiology or patient care environment. ARRT Imaging Assistant - Magnetic Resonance credential (attained or in progress). Familiarity with MRI safety zones, implants, and screening standards. Proficiency with EHR and/or PACS applications.
PHYSICAL
 AND WORK REQUIREMENTS Frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs with assistance). Manipulation of patient positioning aids in confined spaces. Exposure to acoustic noise - hearing protection provided. Must communicate clearly through intercom and hear alarm signals.
