Job Summary Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes: Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures and to request removal of metal objects which are hazardous to patient and equipment when magnet is activated. Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to area of interest, following protocols requested by
RADIOLOGIST.
Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination. Enters data, such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into computer. Keys commands to specify scan sequences, and adjust transmitters and receivers, into computer. Observes patient through window of control room to monitor patient safety and comfort. Views images of area being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures. Keys in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images. Alerts staff entering magnet room to danger of wearing or carrying metal around magnet. Essential Functions A. Job Specific Contacts 1.

Describe the physical efforts, manual dexterity and cognitive skills required for the job (i.e., eye/hand coordination, lifting, pulling, walking, concentration, analysis, customer sensitivity, etc.). On feet most of day. Lifting and positioning of patients. Moving of heavy mobile equipment.

C. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Demonstrates the required job specific technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities.
Demonstrate competency in all exams performed (i.e. positioning, proper labeling, patient identification, choose proper coils, follows MRI protocols, etc.) Competent and able to critique all images and repeat images as necessary. Operates digital equipment for the transfer of images to PACS. 2. Operates the MRI ensuring the required images were obtained as ordered by Physician/Radiologist. Consults with Radiologist to review and ascertain whether additional scanning is required, when needed. 3. Perform quality assurance duties. 4. Prepare room prior to first patient (i.e. room stocked for needed equipment and supplies) and keeps room and work area neat and clean at all times. 5. Instructs in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety and prepares patient for MRI examinations. Screens all patients to assess whether test meets medical necessity criteria and patient is an acceptable candidate for MR Imaging. Contacts patient's Primary Nurse when unable to perform exam. (i.e. patient has pacemaker, etc.) 6. Monitors patient condition by directly observing the patient during the examination and recognizing and reporting abnormal changes in the patient's condition. Able to assess patient pain interfering with Imaging procedure; makes appropriate contact with patient's Primary Care Nurse for intervention. 7. Interacts professionally with patient/family/coworkers. Must possess the ability to work in a high stress area and maintain a positive attitude. 8. Completes all work or completes a proper hand-off before clocking out and leaving. 9. Performs duties according to ARRT standards / ACR standards / OSHA / Montefiore Nyack Hospital protocols. 10. Set up room, sterile trays and injector, prep patient and set up sterile field as needed. Makes special MRI examinations requiring special equipment and procedures such as: Breast Biopsies using
SUROS. 11.
Responsible for safe handling of equipment. Responsible for the MRI safety program and educating staff about safety in the MRI suite. 12. Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation as required. 13. Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly. 14. Attends departmental in-services and Mega Education Day, as scheduled. 15. Attends at least 4 monthly department meetings per year; reads and signs off on meeting minutes when not in attendance. 16. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. 17. Must be able to rotate hospital holidays. Name will be placed on Mandation rotation list to cover open shifts when necessary as per CWA union contract. 18. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital. Document on addendum age specific competency.
