Must have TRD Certification. Wilton Meadows Health Care Center has been a leader in short-term rehabilitation and skilled nursing care for over 30 years. Nestled in beautiful surroundings, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional services and a supportive environment for our residents, including award-winning memory care models tailored to various types of dementia. The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized and group recreational programs for residents in a long-term care setting. This role focuses on enhancing residents' physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being through meaningful activities, while supporting quality of life and resident engagement. This is a non-director, hands-on position working under the supervision of the Activities Director or interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, and lead therapeutic recreation programs based on resident needs, interests, and abilities Conduct resident assessments and contribute to care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team Document participation, progress, and responses to activities in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements Facilitate group and one-on-one activities (e.g., exercise, music, arts, cognitive games, social events) Adapt programs for residents with dementia, physical limitations, or behavioral health needs Encourage resident participation and promote independence and engagement Assist with special events, holidays, and community outings Maintain activity supplies and equipment Ensure programs comply with state and federal regulations for long-term care facilities Support a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all residents
Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or related field preferred Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred but not always required Experience in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, or rehabilitation setting preferred Knowledge of aging, dementia care, and psychosocial needs of residents Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Working Conditions:
Active role requiring standing, walking, and assisting residents May involve evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on programming needs Exposure to healthcare environment and infection control protocols
Reports To:
Recreation Director Requirements Proficiency in Power Point and Microsoft Office Suite Strong organizational skills Experience with Matrix Software is a plus but not required. If you're organized, creative and passionate about enhancing the quality of life for others, we'd love to hear from you!!
