Job Description

PRIMARY ROLE
The primary role of the Consultant for English Language Arts is to work with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer and staff to facilitate and support impactful curriculum, instruction, and assessment models in Macomb County schools.
REPORTS TO
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A Master's degree or higher. 2. A valid Michigan teaching certificate. 3. At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience; preferably in K-6. 4. Expertise in English Language Arts with emphasis on the elementary and middle school levels. 5. Experience with Michigan state testing programs and assessment; with the understanding of test methodologies and content areas. 6. Demonstrated ability to facilitate instructional change at local, state and/or national level(s). 7. Ability to use data for instructional decision-making. 8. Knowledge of K-12 curriculum and instruction principles and practices. 9. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE
1. Expertise in the areas of the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP), The Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC), and an understanding of performance standards and assessment approaches. 2. Knowledge of the Michigan K-12 Standards; English Language Arts. 3. Informed on current legislation, research developments, and evidence-based practices. 4. Expert in Literacy content to advise on curriculum, instructional strategies, including the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. 5. Proficient in utilizing technology as an effective productivity tool, showcasing skills in various software applications, including word processing, Excel spreadsheets, database management, and online meeting platforms. 6. Self-directed, motivated and organized. 7. Ability to apply adult learning principles to effectively meet professional development goals. 8 Willingness to work a flexible schedule involving early morning, evening, and/or weekend assignments as needs dictate
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO
: 1. Guide and support districts on the Michigan
K-12 ELA
standards, curriculum, and evidence-based literacy instruction strategies. 2. Use Structured Literacy approaches rooted in the Science of Reading and evidence-based practices to support student literacy development. 3. Assist schools and districts in gathering and analyzing student literacy data to inform instruction, set goals, and create action plans for ELA program improvement. 4. Act as a liaison among the school districts, MISD, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and Community Stakeholders to ensure compliance with laws and regulations related to ELA funding. 5. Support continuous improvement teams through research-based and evidence-based strategies. 6. Facilitates professional learning with administrators and staff to guide and support evidence-based instruction. 7. Work collaboratively with the MISD internal teams to improve instructional practices with Macomb County educators. 8. Build and maintain consultative relationships with school and district leaders, teachers, coaches, and educators across the county. 9. Support initiatives tied to multi-tiered support systems and guide local education agencies (LEAs) through data-driven problem solving. 10. Promotes strong literacy assessment frameworks (formative, screening and diagnostic). 11. Working with local building and district teams as they work to integrate curriculum and improve student performance. 12. Conduct research, as appropriate, to meet MISD and local school district needs. 13. Work with Consultant Services Department staff to provide the many department services to local district educators. 14. Keep records as directed by Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer. 15. Serve on and participate with internal and external committees as determined by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer. 16. Promote change when it is in the best interests of the MISD and/or local school districts. 17. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues and constituents both individually and as members of a team. 18. Use multimedia technologies to deliver professional information and training. 19. Remain current and conversant with the latest thinking in all areas related to the specific staff assignment. 20. Perform other related tasks as directed by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer.
WORK YEAR
: 186 days (with an opportunity to work additional days based upon availability of funds).
UNION :
This position would be within the Macomb Intermediate Federation of Teachers.
SALARY :
To be determined by qualifications and experience per the Consultant Salary Schedule of the MIFT Master Agreement.
