This position creates meaningful experiences tailored to the needs of assisted living and memory care residents, including individuals with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other behavioral health diagnoses. The Activity Director promotes resident engagement, independence, dignity, and quality of life through creative and therapeutic programming. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesActivity Programming & Resident Engagement Develop, implement, and maintain a monthly activity calendar that offers a variety of recreational, educational, social, cultural, spiritual, and therapeutic programs. Plan and facilitate daily group and individual activities appropriate for residents' physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities. Encourage resident participation while respecting individual preferences and choices. Adapt activities to meet the needs of residents with memory impairment, behavioral health diagnoses, and physical limitations. Conduct one-on-one visits with residents who are unable or unwilling to participate in group activities. Organize holiday celebrations, themed events, outings, family events, and special community programs. Coordinate resident outings and transportation arrangements as needed. Memory Care & Behavioral Health Programming Create meaningful engagement opportunities for residents with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other cognitive or behavioral health conditions. Utilize reminiscence therapy, sensory activities, music therapy, exercise programs, and cognitive stimulation activities. Monitor resident responses to activities and adjust programming to maximize participation and enjoyment. Work collaboratively with nursing and caregiving staff to identify resident interests and activity needs. Documentation & Compliance Complete resident activity assessments upon admission and as required. Maintain attendance records and participation documentation. Assist with care planning and resident-centered goal development. Ensure activity programs comply with state licensing regulations, facility policies, and resident rights standards. Maintain accurate records of activity schedules, participation, and special events. Community Relations & Volunteer Coordination Develop relationships with community organizations, schools, churches, entertainers, and volunteers to enhance resident programming. Coordinate and supervise volunteers participating in activities. Communicate activity schedules and special events to residents, families, and staff. Promote family involvement in resident activities and celebrations. Budget & Supply Management Manage the activity department budget responsibly. Purchase and maintain activity supplies, decorations, games, crafts, and equipment. Ensure activity areas remain organized, clean, safe, and inviting. Seek donations and community partnerships to enhance programming opportunities. Team Collaboration Work closely with nursing, caregiving, dietary, housekeeping, and maintenance departments to coordinate resident-centered events and programs. Provide guidance and support to Activity Assistants and volunteers. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and resident care planning discussions. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field preferred. Previous experience in assisted living, memory care, senior living, behavioral health, or recreational programming preferred. Experience working with residents diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or other behavioral health conditions preferred. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. CPR and First Aid Certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Ability to organize and lead group activities independently. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Compassionate, patient, and energetic personality. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Creativity in developing engaging programs and events. Ability to work with residents of varying cognitive and physical abilities. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and activity calendar creation. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with activity setup and transportation. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to assist residents during activities and outings. Ability to transport supplies and equipment for activities. Work Schedule Full-time position. Occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays required for special events and resident programming.
