Executive Director or Administrator Position Summary The Activity Director plans, organizes, and leads engaging recreational, social, educational, and wellness programs for residents in an assisted living community. This role promotes resident independence, social interaction, emotional well-being, and quality of life through meaningful activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a monthly activities calendar for residents. Plan and lead group and individual activities including games, crafts, exercise classes, music, outings, holiday events, and educational programs. Assess resident interests, abilities, and needs to create inclusive programming. Encourage resident participation and build positive relationships with residents and families. Coordinate community outings and special events. Recruit, train, and supervise activity assistants and volunteers as needed. Maintain activity supplies, equipment, and budget. Document participation and maintain required records in compliance with state regulations and company policies. Collaborate with nursing, dietary, therapy, and other departments to support resident wellness. Ensure activities are conducted safely and accommodate residents with physical or cognitive limitations. Promote a warm, engaging, and supportive environment for all residents. Actively participate in monthly Resident Council meetings. Schedule Flexibility this position requires flexibility, including availability for evening and weekend shifts. Participation is expected. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in recreation therapy, gerontology, social work, or related field preferred. Certification as an Activity Professional. Must have 1-2 years of experience in senior living, healthcare, recreation, or activities programming preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to transport residents in community vehicles. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead groups and engage older adults with varying needs and abilities. Knowledge of dementia-friendly activities is a plus. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Proficiency with basic computer programs and scheduling tools. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to assist residents during activities and outings. Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required.
