A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Create a monthly calendar of recreation and wellness programs. Lead programs including groups, games, exercise classes, wellness talks, etc. Hire entertainers and speakers to include on the monthly calendar. Use motivational techniques encouraging active involvement. Plan and organize supplies and materials needed for programming 1week in advance. Assist in shopping for materials as needed. Report changes in resident physical or emotional status to Director Exercise care and proper use of materials and equipment. Identify ways to improve departmental productivity and efficiency. Attend and participate in staff meetings and educational opportunities. Transport residents to and from events and outings. Maintain clean working environment. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director. Works closely with all department heads to ensure the delivery of the highest quality of services to all residents Promotes and maintains good working relations and communication with all staff and residents of Chapel Oaks Oversees the overall programming and scheduling of the wellness program. Provides community orientation to new residents including usage of the Entertainment package, transportation, and activities Investigates and reports on any safety concerns involving residents Supports the efforts and activities of the marketing department in promoting Chapel Oaks to the community Activities Departments Instrumental in developing a community wide recreational environment promoting physical and mental wellness, cultural pursuits and specialized interests Establishes a wellness program to include various levels of exercise classes, programs and coordinates discussion groups with Doctors and specialists. Coordinates the annual flu shot clinic Attends the Resident Council and periodic focus groups Schedules, plans, organizes, implements and supervises meaningful activities, and special events Recruits, coordinates and supervises interns from local colleges/universities Participates in "away" events as official escort.Candidate Requirements:
Associates degree in the field of recreation, health or social work required 3 years of planning of activities, events & outings Pool & exercise experience - preferred Must be certified or willing to become certified in CPR and first aid Join us in Caring for the Most Important People on Earth.
