Job Description

Job Summary The Rehabilitation Therapist organizes and conducts daily therapeutic programs to facilitate rehabilitation of people with psychosocial illnesses; assesses, maintains, and develops programs to enhance social, cognitive, physical, and emotional functioning of patients. This position ensures patient-centered care and safety provided is in alignment with the culture, philosophy, organization and practices of the hospital. Provides specialty services operating in a range of clinical settings, and coordinates with health care team members to plan and implement patient care. Position Qualifications Bachelor's degree and graduate of an accredited school in Recreation Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, or general Expressive Therapy or Licensed Independent counselor (LPCC), preferred OR Two-year degree in Occupational Therapy with Licensure. Previous experience in geriatric and/or behavioral health setting, preferred. Two years' relevant experience preferred. Ability to maintain a high level of emotional tolerance. Good knowledge of therapeutic processes, growth and development, limit setting, behavior management, and establishing/maintaining therapeutic relationships and boundaries appropriate to age of patient population served. Ability to consistently demonstrate a high level of reliability, accountability, and organizational understanding. Current BLS certification required through the American Heart Association or completion of Generations Behavioral Health's BLS course upon hiring Responsibilities Responsible to plan, conduct, direct, and coordinate the patients' needs through therapeutic programming and activities in a group and/or individual setting. Create treatment plans and programming that meet patients' needs and interests. Complete assessments for functional and rehabilitative needs that may include activities of daily living; community living skills; social, leisure, and vocational skills. Promote patient empowerment and self-care activities. Educate patient, family, and caregiver in skills applicable for discharge plan. Practice safety and health code standards. Train other team members in the provision of therapeutic programming and activities while maintaining safety procedures. Plan and implement interventions to prevent harm to patients. Help patients learn social skills needed to become or remain independent. Teach patients about ways to cope with anxiety or depression. Document services in accordance with hospital policy and requirements. Maximize productivity through proficient use of appropriate technology, including EMR/WellSky, etc. Participate in the interdisciplinary team conferences to review patient progress. Record and analyze patient progress. Evaluate interventions for effectiveness. Maintain a safe, efficient, and organized work environment. Maintain a professional and organized workspace at all times. Working Conditions Work is performed in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting. Work occurs in secured units with continuous patient interaction. Environment may be noisy, fast-paced and emotionally intense. Frequent standing, walking and moving throughout the units for extended periods. Ability to lift, push and or pull up to 20 lbs as needed for patient care. Required to assist in physical interventions or crisis response following hospital policy and CPI training. Regular performance of rounds, safety checks and patient observation.
