A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Description

Job Summary Performs assessments of patient activity needs, develops a plan of care based on the assessment and implements the plan in conjunction with the patient and/or family. Participates as part of the interdisciplinary team. Qualifications Education Preferred High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Experience:
Required Completed two years in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting or has completed an activity training course approved by any state.
Certification/Licensure:
Required o Activities Director Certification Must obtain within one (1) year of start date Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must obtain within thirty (30) days of start date Safe Approach Level III Certification Must obtain within six (6) months of start date
