Area Director About us: Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia (BGCSEVA) was founded in 1919 by the Norfolk Rotary Club. Back then, we were known as Boys Club of Norfolk. Today, we have 9 Clubs in 7 cities. Because of our geographic reach, we are now Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia; and serve children ages 6-18. Directs/manages overall daily operations of the designated Club with the primary concern for outcome driven programs and service delivery, supervision and coaching of staff and volunteers, facilities management, community relations and membership administration. Handles personnel issues, manages facility, develops and manages a budget, actively engages and supports advisory boards or committees, and manages community relations, volunteers, and membershipKEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities): 1. Ensure Club provides programs, activities, services and recognition that prepare you for success and that create a club environment that facilities achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. 2. Ensure Club Environment and Safety of all Club activities and programming. Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained. 3. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Club overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation. 4. Manage Club financial resources assisting in the development of annual budgets. Control expenditures against budget. 5. Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operations of physical properties and equipment of the Club, including use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with organization policies. 6. Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for Club staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings. Responsible for meeting ADA goals through recruitment & retention of members. 7. Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations. Carry out special events 8. Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community to create awareness. 9. Attend (and at times, leads and assists management, program and site meetings and other meetings and trainings as requested. 10. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan. Accountable for the behavior management of members including the development of behavior plans & contracts with parents to address issues. 11. Assume other duties as assigned.RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Maintains contact with Board members as needed. Has contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.External:
Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience. A minimum of five years of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, Thorough knowledge of recreation and youth development theory. Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders. Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel. Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to deal effectively with members and foster positive relationships with them. Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management. Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications. (acquire within 3 months of employment)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Be able to squat or bend to communicate at youth's level.
- Be able to lift up to 25 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
- Be able to participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property and/or on field trips.
