A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Summary:
Recreational Therapist will be working in a Complex Intervention Unit where inpatients will have acute medical complications in addition to active mental health diagnosis. Experience with mental health patient population is preferred but not required. Provides recreational therapy services to improve the health and quality of life by reducing impairments of body function and structure, reducing activity limitations, participation restrictions, and environmental barriers of the population served. The recreation therapist facilitates full and optimal involvement in community life through the use of assessment, planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of specific therapeutic interventions. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
A minimum of one year of experience, preferably in a similar setting is required.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation is required.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION
Current certification through the NCTRC as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Mandatory certification within 90 days of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
