Job Description

REGISTERED NURSE
The nurse is responsible for providing direct and indirect professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. The nurse assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care and functions as primary liaison between patients and physicians.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Nursing
  • Current Alabama nursing license through ABN
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Current Hepatitis B vaccine, flu vaccine, and negative TB test
  • Must be team oriented individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain working relationships and interact with patients and employees on a daily basis
  • Must maintain a professional appearance
  • Ability to perform procedures as listed below
  • Ability to perform work which requires full range of body motion, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with varied activities, such as sitting, walking stooping, lifting, bending and reaching
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard and necessary office equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and view and type on the computer for long periods
  • Ability to perform work which may be stressful at times due to work load, constant interruptions, emergency situations and upset patients
  • Ability to work night and weekend hours if scheduled
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment DUTIES
  • Provide general nursing care to patients, including administering medications, vaccinations, and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
  • When administering vaccines, must make certain that all parental and patient questions are answered and written vaccine information is given PRIOR to administering vaccines
  • Documents medications, vaccines, and treatments in chart
  • Keep exam rooms full by escorting patients to exam rooms and taking vital signs
  • Document patient complaints and concerns
  • Review and updates allergies, medications, immunizations and medical history
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records at all times
  • Assist physicians, nurses, and medical assistants with exams including, restraining patients safely if needed
  • Perform procedures as ordered by physician
  • Enter laboratory results as available in the patient's chart
  • Educate patient/family regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness
  • Instructs patient/family in collection of tests
  • Schedule and arrange referrals and outside testing for patients, as directed by physician
  • Answer the emergency phone line and transfer call appropriately or assists the caller as needed and documents encounter in the chart
  • Answer all phone messages promptly
  • Record all phone contact in the chart
  • Although the office usually has a nurse assigned as phone nurse, it is the responsibility of all nurses to answer as many messages as they can during the day. The goal is to return clinical phone calls within an hour and to return all phone calls by the end of the day.
  • Perform QC as indicated on all testing procedures listed below
  • Keep exam rooms and nursing stations clean and well stocked
  • Properly clean and sterilize equipment and stocks trays as needed
  • Maintain equipment as indicated, including proper calibrations and notify office manager of malfunction
  • Perform x-rays on patients if the x-ray technician is unavailable
  • Enter laboratory results from outside labs into the chart and notify physician of results
  • Support and enforce infection control policies and procedures, CLIA policies, office policies, OSHA policies, and HIPAA policies
  • Participate in daily huddles with care team
  • May be required to perform other duties as requested by management
